Toyota sized Kenwood Navigation unit

Thought some of you guys might be interested in this...

I've always preferred the Kenwood navigation systems because they use the Garmin Navigation ECU's, which means the Garmin mapping works on them. Garmin is the only ones that are really keeping their Middle East mapping up to date - I'm in Dubai.

Turns out Kenwood has a couple models that are specifically Toyota sized - the one I got was the DDX630WM - combined with the navigation module KNA-G630.

Stock radio:

After installing:

With the Garmin navigation:

Very nice - very factory appearance - so nice to not need the Metra / Scosche style adapters on each side! Also came with a plug and play harness for the Toyota audio connector.

Only thing is the Toyota antenna is a different connector - need an adapter as I'm sure most of you have figured out already.

Will try and get some better pictures for you in daylight :)

The top is the stock head unit? I think that might be worse than the FR-S unit lol....I like the replacement you picked up though.

I was just looking at a pic with the metra kit installed saying, "Nope".

This is great, thanks!

So what is the actual name of this DIN size?

That's what we get in the Middle East! It's not a good unit at all! Sound quality is terrible and menus are a pain to navigate and it would not remember that I was using the USB previously and defaults to FM every time I re-start the car. Annoying to say the least!

Happy with the replacement :)

Don't know what the official name is but I've always called it "Toyota Double Din"

As mentioned in the original post - Kenwood DDX630W with Kenwood KNA-G630 Navigation ECU.

Kenwood has an absolute mess of part numbers though with slight changes for different regions - at least I know that the Navigation ECU in the USA is the KNA-G610, not G630.

There is also a radio called the DDX630 which is not the same - standard Double Din. I think the key is the "W" part for "wide" I'm guessing.

Anyway - tracked down a suitable Antenna adapter today so I'll be putting that in soon. The Antenna adapter has one blue wire on it - any idea what I'm supposed to do with that?

Apparently our cars have amplified antennas so hook that blue wire up to the antenna or remote wire off the aftermarket unit.

I just called my Kenwood rep and it's a no go on getting this in the states. I'd like to import one just to check it out though. Different am/fm tuner but I don't really care about that.

Ask your rep what they have for nav units in a 1.5 DIN configuration. That's all this one is. Some people call it "Din and a half" or "one and a half din." I say "one point five din" personally.

I'm curious..what are the sizes of each DIN. From what I found online

Single is about 2x7
1.5 is about 3x7
Double is about 4x7

So, If ours is 1.5, how does that work?

Again, I'm going on what the interwebs said, so it might now be accurate.
