Automatic BRZ down shifting

Not sure if it is just my car or what but when i down shift generally between 1-2k rpm i get a large jolt usually downshifting from 2nd to 1st. It doesn't feel natural to me comparing it to a 428i's transmission.

The jolting was a lot worse when i had the stock muffler on however when i switched to the Works AB, there was less of a joly from 3rd to 2nd however still a jolt from 2nd to 1st.

Car is about 30,000k miles.

Had the same issue on my 13 BRZ. I generally equated it to missing a downshift in a manual. I found that the AT ECU liked to be shifted hard.
No one has cracked the AT ECU that I have heard of.

It's normal....

Just remember, how hard that would be in M/T

I usually let the car decide when it wants to downshift to 1st. I also have the same issue but unless it needs to go down to first I usually don't manually shift down from 2nd to 1st.

The cut off for a 2-1 downshift is 4000 rpm. I would get the 'LURCH' at the lower rpm's. Generally from 2k-3k rpm. I lived with it. I drove with paddle shifters all the time. So if I got the 'lurch' in auto, I never knew it.

It happens on occasion....but don't you just love the sound of the engine/exhaust when you downshift?!? :D

It's normal, when I drive any auto/DCT using paddle shifters, I only downshift as far as 2nd and I let the transmission do it's job from 2nd to 1st.

Only sort of on topic, but anyone know where to find the thread by the member who had all that work done on his transmission? I tried to search and found a bunch of threads, but not that one.
Oh, and I don't have this problem when I drive in manual mode. Don't know what I'm doing differently.

Try @wlfpck "Automatic Transmission (AT) info and upgrade thread"

I appreciate the try, but that's one of the ones I found. I'm looking for a review of their products. I remember someone who got the valve body seeming disappointed. I was wondering if that opinion changed. It's just idle curiousity, it isn't like I'm rushing out to mod my transmission.
