TRD big brake kit adaptation
Hey guys & gals!
I just recently got my RS1 and cant wait to start doing stuff to it. First things first I want to upgrade my brakes. I know that Toyota won't sell TRD calipers for my Yuzu yet but I was wondering if I could adapt the ones on any of their other models?? Let me know what you guys think. P.S. I know allot of you are going to say (Just get brembo or stoptech or wilwood) I am considering that option but with this built I really want to stay as close as possible to Toyota parts. Plus it just seems right to have TRD brakes on a TRD model. |
I would advise against installing brakes developed for a different car onto your RS1. I believe Japan has a TRD brake package for some sort of special edition GT86, but the last time I heard it was extremely expensive.

Yep, I agree with @ryoma, I would't be messing with the brakes that aren't specific to the car. So, what do you find "weak" about the OEM brakes ..... ?? Unless you're gonna track it heavy, maybe you will find the OEM brakes will stop your car just fine ..... ?? humfrz |
Here are some links from TRD Japan and Nigel JDM.

At stock power your better off just getting better pads, and fluid. These are the same brakes of the 15 WRX… More weight and power. Brakes are fine.

If you do any tracking at all changing pads and putting in good/fresh fluid are important and should suffice. Also, stainless brake lines are nice to have for a better feeling brake pedal. Next step up would be aftermarket rotors for the front - for example, DBA 4000 series. If you continue to do more tracking you might want to consider track only pads.

Thanks for the info guys. the Brake upgrade sounds to much for a stock engine but I am also planning on upgrading to boost with the Ptunning setup. Considering that I will gain allot of power from that setup I have to plan ahead on how I will stop with out brake failure due to excessive heat or not enough surface area on my discs. wheels are also something that is bothering me I bought that care with the TRD wheels on it already and did not know that they were only 7.5 wish concerns me a little.

the 6 piston mono blocks are certainly expensive |
It's about what you'd pay for a 6-pot/4-pot Brembo front/rear kit, which if I recall correctly, is what the TRD BBK is.
