Loud engine noise?

Hi everyone,

First post here! Just bought a '15 FR-S in Hot Lava. I love it so far. First manual car.. so.. yay me.

All of my previous cars have been GM and so I've never had any non-GM vehicle. Tonight I drove home from work (~10 minute drive), and parked in my driveway and sat in neutral. I had the windows down and I started hearing engine noise. The engine is still BRAND new, with roughly 300 miles on it.

I've recorded a small sample of the audio. This was taken from my cellphone, laid on the ground beneath the driver side, right infront of the driver tire. Hood closed.

Is this normal? Why is it so loud??? lol.

:thanks:

That sounds like the high pressure fuel pump to me.

Could be. I'm used to old school cool (shoutout to the 3rd gen camaro/firebirds I've built). I'll let you know if it clears up any. It was just the loudest engine noise ever I felt like lol.

Thanks.

Yeah, it's fine. Just a big sewing machine. Yours is the first one I've heard with crickets even when it's not running. That's quite an accomplishment.

Sounds like my BRZ engine at idle - the direct injection chatter (sounds like a Diesel engine). I think it's normal.

As a guy that grew up with old school 8s that if they made noises like these cars do meant they were going to blow up any second it took me sa while to get used to the noises that come out of these things. Now I would be much more concerned if any of these noises stopped.
All is normal and be prepared because you will hear new noises for months.

Fa20 is actually a Diesel engine. It is known.
