If I buy the BRZ can I take it to Toyota?

Sorry I don't know too much about cars. I was wondering if I were to buy the Subaru BRZ if I had to take it to a mechanic, could I take it to Toyota our do I have to take it to Subaru?

Your warranty would only be covered by Subaru. You can bring it to a Toyota shop, but they would probably look at you funny.

Hahaha Thanks, It's just because I'm assuming Subaru would be expensive maintenance If I were to take it to their dealership, rather than Scions.

Rebadge it to toyota and look at them even funnier when they look at you funny.

I asked some Scion people about this at the First 86 meet in Long Beach and they said warranty issues would nt be covered.

how is this company politics? they are two companies. i dont see why it seems irrational that a dealer that wouldnt get compensation would be willing to do the work

I don't see how Subaru would really charge you any more than Toyota would and vise-versa. It probably varies more by actual dealership than by brand. Some dealers of the same brand car charge more than others.

My only qualm would be taking it some place where A)decent people work on it, B)they don't have ham-fists, and C)they know what they're doing.

For Australia: You can take your new vehicle to anyone at all to get it serviced. You can take your Toyota to a Ford dealer if you wish, or any compitant mechanic/workshop that can do the service and stamp your book.

If you have a problem with your new Toyota, you need to take it to the Toyota dealer to have them fix it, if its in warantee period. If you have a problem with your new Subaru, you can't go to Toyota for a warantee claim.

But any workshop can do the service, or retail repair.

The first two years maint are covered by Subaru so I wouldn't worry about it for awhile.

Also, I'm not sure a Toyota dealership is going to be any cheaper than a Subaru dealership.

For non warranty stuff (and maint after the first two years) you can take it to whoever you want.

They are two seperate companies.. it's not politics.

I'd prefer taking the FRS / BRZ to a subaru service shop - its a boxer engine .. at least subaru guys will have a +1 on the toyota guys in that factor ..
Other than that there should be no difference, especially since its a new platform both companies on a roughly even ground lol

Where did you get this information from?

Dealership/new vehicle paperwork. They included the "basic" service plan at a price of $0.00 which covers the first 2 years/24,000 miles. My dealership actually covers scheduled maintenance after that for free as well.

I can get the actual name of the contract when I get home, I don't believe I left that stuff in the car.
