Tyre Load Rating Help
Hi all, this is my first post here and I am after advice regarding tire selection.
I am located in Australia and have a Toyota 86 GT fitted with the original 16" alloy wheels and 205/55/16 Yokohama tyres. The original tyres have a 91 load rating. I recently purchased a set of 18" TRD USA wheels that are recommended to run a 215/40/18 front tyre. Unfortunately I cannot find a tyre in this size that meets the original load rating, which I need to comply with to maintain road worthiness. I am thinking of stepping up to a 45 profile tyre which can be had in 91 and 93 load ratings. Besides the speedometer being out by a few km at 100km/h, is there anything else that I should watch out for? Thanks :) |
Can you run a 225/40/18? There are a lot of 92 rated tires in that size.

I am not sure how well that tyre would work on a 18x7" wheel. Thoughts?
edit: I'd also have to step up the rear to a 235/40/18 for the 18x7.5" wheel? |
You don't really have to stick the OEM load rating, as you are switching to a completely differently sized tire with different characteristics.
