Nice choice in number there! 86 was a good touch
|
I wonder what BOP adjustment they'll slap him with this time.
Good luck, Tony! |
He has attended 6 races this season and has 5 first place and 1 third place (in the rain) to show for it. Despite missing 3 races in Canada, he leads the drivers points in class. I think his BOP will be substantial. He will probably be carrying the maximum success weight penalty possible. It will be interesting to see how the FR-S continues to perform as the organizers try ot slow it down to give the Z4, RX8, Civic Si and Forte Koup a chance.
|
Moving him from pole to last place on the grid for the start of his latest win didn't work so who knows what BOP they'll come up with next.
|
It looks like the SCCA was successful in slowing the FR-S down. Tony qualified 4th in class almost a full second behind Jason Wolfe in his Kia Forte Koup who is currently second in points. Both the BMW Z4 and a Civic Si also qualified ahead of Tony.
I am looking forward to watching the first race tomorrow at 9:30 in the morning eastern time. |

I am not so sure that that is the extent of it. The announcers at the Road America said the Johan Schwartz was carrying an extra 125LB in TCB due to his dominance. If 50LBs is all the success ballast they can add for BOP then they must have also adjusted the Sonic's base weight up too. I also think I saw something about restricting the intake as a BOP option. It has been a while since I read through all the rules and the VAS for each car.
I hope he was just sandbagging and he smokes them again tomorrow. |
Before Road America the base weight listed for the FR-S was 2900 lbs (I guess that includes Tony), so it looks like a simple 50 lb bump in weight. But I just noticed in latest regs, in the column for restrictor manifold presssure limit, the FR-S is "TBD". You might be right about other ways to slow him down.

The first race starts in about 15 minutes.
Edit: And now it looks like there will be no live broadcast......WTF!! |
Closest I can find is live timing and scoring going on now:
http://worldchallenge.growsites.net/ Tony is 1 lap down in P18 with 30 minutes to go. |
Yeah, he is running 6/10 of a second a lap slower than the class leading Kia Forte Koup of Jason Wolfe and is 8 seconds back from him. It looks like they overshot on the BOP adjustment. If his whole weekend goes like this then he will be behind in the points going into the next weekend but he should also loose a bit of weight that they hit him with.
IN chat they are saying no live broadcast allowed because NASCAR is there this weekend. EDit: Tony finished 4th which was where he started. He was 20 seconds behind the class leader. Worse finish of the year. He will start 4th later today. There will apparently be no video from this weekend but it will be televised on CBS sports network at a later daye. |
Tony apparently out of the second race after lap 3. No idea what happened but the BMW Z4 also fell back at the same time so they may have tangled.
