San Gabriel Canyon Road (Azusa, CA) 19 SEP

Helloes!

I understand that it is a short drive (relatively short); however, hoping to make the best out of it and not have too much traffic past certain points. I will be driving it prior to Saturday to ensure everything is good on my end (you're welcome to join me when I get an exact date I arrive in town; I will post a date when I get into CA)

Drive through the San Gabriel Canyon Road (Azusa, CA)
Date/Time
Saturday 19SEP15 @ To Be Determined (TBD)

Location
Target
809 N Azusa Ave
Azusa, CA 91702

Depart Time
0830-0900

Extras
Two-way radio / GoPro / Camera

General Guidelines
Safety is a huge thing for me so do your best to stay in your lane. If you're like me you drive with traction control / vehicle stability control (TC/VSC) off; however, that might not be the best thing to do. Maintain safe following distance.

Prior posting
I'm heading up to California in September and would like to see if anyone here would fancy doing a drive up and back down San Gabriel Canyon Road all the way up to the lookout point. It'll probably be on the 19th September, it could be within that week (I do not expect to hit CA until the 12-14th). I'm driving up from Texas and taking various detours on the way there. The first week I'll be traveling from Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, California. If the date has to be pushed back or moved slightly forward it can be. I should, hoping to at least, be in California from 14th-22nd. Might be earlier depends if I stop as much as I plan to on the way there.

Anyways, back on topic. I'm curious if anyone would be interested in doing that drive. I'll do it by myself if I have to, but figure I'll ask if anyone wants to do a meet up and do the drive with, and maybe some food afterwards. If it's something you're interested in let me know and a time and location can be decided for meeting/food.

Side note: I'm a native to California - previously Azusa and moved to Chino. I'm waiting for my leave to get approved, but it most likely will due to excess time. It'll be my first trip back in a year 1/2.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: Added roster of individuals.
Edit 2: Added location/time/extra information.
Edit 3: Changed time for the meet TBD.

I am nearby and would roll with you. Remind us a week before.

So down to roll

Sweet. If anyone wants to plan a meet place can do that or I can drive by when I arrive there. I'm pretty sure that town has changed a lot since I left in 2001.

Count me in

I got word today that my leave is approved. Woo.

Not too sure how current the googs updates their maps but can pick from a few places to meet up. In no particular order:

Northside Park / Target (Parking Garage on Azusa Ave) / La Tolteca. I think La Tolteca or Target would be more appropriate as it is direct access to Azusa Ave; however, if someone has a better suggestion I'm open for it.

Target would be an easy place for everyone to meet. I'll see if a couple friends want to go once there is an exact date set.

Zubit 08-11-2015 08:17 PM

19 SEP would be the date. I would say meet around 0800 and leave around 0815-0830? And do you guys use two way radios or no?

DannyQ86 08-11-2015 09:53 PM

I don't use a two way really but I have only been on a few of these runs. 19th at 8am? I have a feeling it will conflict with a lot of people's work schedules. Maybe some other members can chime in on a good day.

f-tech 08-12-2015 12:39 AM

Let's get the radios ready

With regards to the time I can leave it up to the majority to decide a perfect time for it. I'm not too sure if the road is closed or not but completely welcome to make it a night run instead of a day run. If that is the case we can pick a place to eat somewhere and head out afterwards. I will change the time for it as to be determined (TBD).

With regards to the radios I have two of them. I can bring my spare with me when I head out there and hand it out for someone to use.
