Inserts for the center console - cupholder replacement
 

Are any companies planning on releasing a moulded plastic insert for the center console that will say.. hold an iphone / ipod and charge it?

BMWs have this nifty feature.

i would like one of those that could power the iphone.
maybe can utilise the 12v DC socket.

There is a DIY thread where someone ran a iphone cable from the stereo to come out form the bottom of the centre console area, that could be an option?

Also i think that plugging into your car's USB port would also charge your iphone.

If you're not connecting via the USB port, there's a 12V socket in the glovebox you can charge from.

i would like something that sits in that hole & connects to the usb port via some hidden method and locks the phone in place. i dont want messy usb cables coming from the center panel.

i pretty much just want what the BMWs have.. i think mercedes have the same thing.

How many years until we laugh about how 'old' cars used to come with no place to put your phone. Phone holders will be like cup holders, every car will have a place for every passenger's phone. Seriously, everyone has a phone and there's no place to really hold one properly in any car. Why not?

well hopefully some enterprising company sees the dollars to be made with this deficiency of the stock vehicle and offers a solution for us.

i think a soft hinged console lid would be the go.
