Those are the outliers, pay no attention to those. Pricing can be a bit "all over the place", but most in our local area are more reasonable. Some dealers will price a little high, expecting you to talk them down a bit. I've see some twins sit on lots for months, having their prices drop or eventually ending up at auction and turning up at another dealer in another state...

As the twins age in both years and mileage, I've seen the prices become more "realistic".

I'm actually not surprised at any of this. I would personally never buy a heavily modded car because I'm the do-it-yourself "built not bought" type of person. With that said, I unfortunately know 2 guys (one is now married so I guess I can't count him in this anymore..) who purchased modded cars for a very high price just to save themselves the guess work.

I'm pretty sure if they leave it up there long enough, some dumb ass with a lot of money is going to bite on it. Maybe not for $40k but probably mid-high $30's. I've seen it happen quite a few times already.

Yeah, AAA now uses truecar.com for buying services (at least n my region). The price truecar shows is the MAX someone should pay. Truecar gets a $299 finders fee, so you can knock off that from their price and ask if local dealers can beat it via email...

Volume dealers like Heuberger in CO and Manchester in NH can usually beat car buying service's prices.

even manchester doesn't have a brz on their website. It is like no one in new england wants these cars.

Extreme cases like this aren't that surprising. What gets me is the number of 2013 fr-s out there listed at 22-25 thousand.
I like seeing that. If the price mimics the way the S2000 is going currently, any of us who hold the car long term make out better. I kept my prior daily driver for 16 years so you know how I feel about this.
In fact the only one that doesn't fare well on the price staying good for the used 86s are the ones who think the price is going to drop like a brick later and waiting to buy after that happens.
