2015 BRZ Limited - Install Powered Sub, retaining stock HU

Hello all!

This is my first post, and I have been sifting through numerous posts trying to discern the best way to add a sub (that isn't the stock OEM $500 sub).

I want to retain the stock HU for a couple reasons - security being the main one. I found the YouTube video that I think someone from this forum made ([ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma5s8GLOd7w"]Subaru BRZ Quick Subwoofer Amp Install - YouTube[/ame]), and it seems like ALMOST what I need.

I am looking at one of these:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Blaupunkt-500-Watt-10-Inch-Active-Subwoofer/dp/B0063FV500/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1438872315&sr=8-1&keywords=blaupunkt+xlb+250"]Amazon.com: Blaupunkt Blue Magic XLb 250 A 500-Watt 10-Inch Active Subwoofer System: Car Electronics[/ame]

And

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Rockford-Fosgate-P300-10-Subwoofer-Enclosure/dp/B007AQ2W2Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1438872245&sr=8-1&keywords=p300-10"]Amazon.com: Rockford Fosgate P300-10 Punch Powered Loaded 10-Inch Subwoofer Enclosure: Car Electronics[/ame]

In a perfect world, I would tap into the pre-amp wires (like the YouTube video) but I wanted to know if there was a harness I could buy that I could tap into instead?

IE:

Stock Wiring Harness
|
|
Tapped Wiring Harness -----> Powered sub
|
|
Stock Amp
|
|
Stock wires to speakers

I also need some help on the actual wiring. I understand running the power to the battery, the remote turn on, but I'm unsure of which speaker wires to tap into and where they go in the powered sub.

Any and all help would be MUCH appreciated and I'm sorry for posting a thread that's probably been posted 1000 times.

Thanks!

The guide linked in this thread really helped me with my amp and sub install, however, the 2015 stock Scion headunit didn't have RCA outputs so I had to buy a line-out converter and splice into the front speaker output wires. I found out which wires to splice using the wiring description from this post:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9497

Hope that helps.

Yeah the BRZs (from what I've read) don't have RCA outs which is my big hang-up. I wouldn't mind running them up, but they're non-existent.

The posts you linked are ones I've seen, and are still helpful, but I want to only deal with the rear wires that go into the stock amp and preferably use a harness so I'm not cutting into stock wires.

I supposed I could splice in a line out converter if needed at the rear wires.

Either way, thanks for the response! I'll see if anyone else posts more words of advice before I start cutting into things

@johnjc2145

I bought this thing for $23

http://www.ebay.com/itm/121315480698...witem=&vxp=mtr

Product Details:
Use this adapter to make your installation of an amplifier to the factory system faster with a cleaner install.
Use this plug and play adapter so you don't have to cut or splice into the factory wiring.
Provides one pair stereo rca output and a power wire for the remote amplifier turn on connection.
Adjustable left and right gain output.

Compatibility Notes:
Not compatible with factory amplified stereo systems.
Connection is done at back of radio.

@DAEMANO

This seems awesome, can this be added to the rear amp (pre-amp) or is it only for the back of the HU?

Haven't installed mine yet, but back of the head-unit. The red wire is the power on/off remote for the amp.

Is there any reason this couldn't be added to the pre-amp harness at the rear?

Not that I can think of right now.

This particular adaptor adds the rca and seems to still use the factory amp in the trunk even though it says cannot be used with "factory amplified systems". All its doing is splicing into two of the speakers and adding the rca connections. Seems like a nice peice to avoid cutting.

I used a harness to tap into the factory amp, here is a video I made https://youtu.be/__6FuXulfIo
