MPSS or Direzza ZII SS

Time has come to replace the stockers, finally wore them down to the wear bars. Primary use of the car is back road driving in the summer, occasional autocross, but will not be able to get on track until next year. The tires are going to be mounted on the stock wheels on a stock car. Looking to increase grip and be more competitive at AutoX, however, I live at the corner of two dirt roads and am concerned about a sticky tire throwing rocks everywhere that my mudflaps aren't - is that a valid concern with the ZII's? I have heard that the ultimate grip of the MPSSs isn't any greater than the MPHPs, is this true? I am content with a 15,000 mile tire life.

The PSS are better for that dirt you mention, but are much slower in autocross.

I'd go with pss
both will throw rocks around
pss will last longer

You're going to have to decide which is more important. Daily use or AutoX.

Reason being is that MPSS are a street tire. The MPSS aren't going to make you significantly faster compared to everyone else who are running 200TW (or less) tires at the AutoX.

If you're really worried about street wear and rocks, and still want to be faster at the AutoX you'll need two sets of wheels/tires.

This might not be as impractical as it sounds. Remember... MPSS can be expensive. Nearly 50% greater the cost of other decent street tires (for example, the DZ102 below are a brand new tire, comfortable and last a long time).

215/45/17
Dunlop Direzza Zii SS - $146
Michelin Pilot Super Sports -$140
Dunlop Direzza DZ102 - $98
