JRP track day at Mosport
 

Wife sets her best time yet in the BRZ at the Mosport big track last week, and this was with a passenger who's also an instructor.

The guy that got a ride has as Corvette (R compounds, brakes, akrapovic exhaust) and he walked away impressed not only by the driver but also the BRZ's capabilities. He now understands what a momentum car is!

BRZ's basically stock, used to have a set of RE-11's (front left was completely worn at the end of the day), street Hawk HPS pads up front (lost the key and couldn't put on the track pads), DS2500 pads on the back and and AP Racing brakes up front.

You missed a good day. Great weather, incident free, and mostly everybody didn't hold up people between the front and back straight (well we did have a BMW driver that did that in the morning).

Yup that was Derrick. A lap later Derrik waves her by BEFORE turn 10 and she was ready to make the pass on the inside of 10. Good thing that my Corvette friend was saying "wait wait wait!" (he's also an instructor).

I think they both forgot that they're not in a mock race practice :)

Ooo so Derrick doesn't just tow it from event to event and then unload it from the trailer for the day! :D

That's a sick lap! She's bested me by like 12 seconds! She's carrying way more speed into corners 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10 then I thought possible in our little cars. You have an awesome wife there, I can't even get mine to entertain the idea of heading to the track with me.

On another note, what do you use for data-logging? Currently I just use my dashcam for speed and rough estimates of lap time and am looking for something better.

My best lap time was also set that day in the mid 1:47s, which is close to her best time two years ago. It'll probably take me that long to get closer to 1:43!

Yeah, I notice that there are gals that will show up but not really participate. Some that will as a passenger then ones who will track and typically the ones who track have either competed competitively or used to (as is the case with my wife). So that's my excuse on why she's faster :)

I use the Qstarz LT-Q6000 for timing, it does 10 samples/second, would be nice if there was something affordable that does 100 samples but then the prices goes up significantly. Use the program that comes with the Qstarz to convert the GPS information to GPX and use DashWare to sync the GPS and video together (which is the toughest part). DashWare used to be a pay for application but it's now free ever since GoPro bought them. I do seem to have problems playing a video from within DashWare, not sure why... click play and it plays for a fraction of a second then stops. Maybe because the MP4 video is from a Sony and not a GoPro :)

Yeah, don't feel too bad about her being faster... she has A LOT of experience and is a very good driver.
