DIY Oil cooler setup?

Anyone on here created their own oil cooler kit? Mounting isn't a very difficult thing to make a bracket. just wondering what sandwich plate would be a good one to go with? also I assume -10 an lines and a cooler from summit racing would do just fine compared to the 800 dollar kits out there..this should be able to be done for much less.

Anyone done it?

This plus the -10 fitting

Then 11 foot or so of -10AN line plus whatever fittings youll need, which will depend on where you mount it

I made mine. -10AN lines, Mocal thermostatic plate with spacer, and 34-row core mounted next to the intercooler

Spent about $500, but could have done it for less.

FRS or brz? my intercooler takes up a lot of the area in my bumper that would get air, I suppose id have to remove my fogs..

Make sure you look at the maximal performance kit before putting in the effort yourself ;)

FRS. I have a narrowish intercooler. No fogs, but several off-the-shelf kits put the core behind the fog bezel, that area apparently gets plenty of airflow even with fogs in.

HKS and Fullblown kits both utilize that area, and they both say the airflow is sufficient. If you don't like that idea, You probably have space to put it in front of your intercooler. The cavity behind the grille is cavernous.

About the area behind the fog light bezel.

I prefer that area too so that the hot oil cooler doesn't interfere with a FMIC and is less susceptible to damage from impacts to the plastic tray or debris coming straight in. The question that has been asked a couple times (a few by @CSG_Mike ) is in regards to that being a relatively low pressure area, so where will the hot air being generated by the oil cooler be vented out to? Would it vent back up into the engine bay (no bueno), or somehow underneath the car or perhaps even someplace else?

I really like the idea of a setup like the P&L oil cooler kit that uses a thermostatically switched Setrab FanPack-like radiator to either continuously push air through the front or pull hot air off the back of the radiator (instead of airflow being speed dependent).

NOW That's an oil cooler setup that I would pay for as a kit.
