Seat cooling
Has anyone implemented seat cooling?
I am very strongly considering these under my iggee seat covers [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Viotek-Cooled-Seat-Cushion-Tru-Comfort/dp/B00K1N43M2/ref=pd_sim_263_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0NX4JMTA0V74AYP45X EV"]Amazon.com: Viotek Cooled Seat Cushion - Featuring Tru-Comfort Auto Cooling Climate Control - Grey: Automotive[/ame] Wondering is anyone has comments/experience/thoughts? Thank you! |
Purchased 1 to try out, wasn't excited about the controller. I decided to cut it out and tested the motor. It works on straight 12v. Will be setting up with a switch and relay configuration I think, so full on or off.
Have not installed in car yet, only got it today. Review for effectiveness pending. |
Cool thanks for sharing. Wonder how they fit/look/work, pics please. I also wonder how noisy they are.

I didn't feel up to it yesterday after the intake install. Might be next weekend. |

goodness I don't get any time for car projects these days..
initial impressions: my Iggee seat covers were more attractive. It's a little difficult to get settled so that it seems to fit the chair I elected to hardwire it to full power and cut out the controller. The fan is a little loud, prob about the same as the vents on 3 or 4. I have only tried the cooling in the living room, it seems to work.. will have to report back when its in the car. |

underside.
also I didn't use the rear flap that came with it, I just used the stock one that comes with the chair. |
initial impressions after weekend of driving.
cooling effect is centered on lower back, the rest of the seat isnt really noticeableto me. the seat rumbles a little when it's on, feels a little like sitting in atruck the cushion pushes the seating position up a little, needed to adjust seatdown a few notches the cushion softens the bolsters, making it hug you less I can't get the cushion to stay centered, it moves to the center of thecar.. presumably due to how I enter/exit the car. It's less attractive than i would have hoped for, but its not terrible. one time over the weekend my airbag light came on, it hasnt come back, haven't determined if its due to the fan or not. the fan is only rated 1.5A, so you can run 2 easily off the 10A seat heatercircuit in the dash if you have an FRS which doesn't have heated seats. |
Removed this from my car yesterday.
It worked well, but did not fit our stock seats as well as one would like. overall rating would be a 3.5, it did what was advertised, and was reasonably easy to work with and to modify to meet my install desires, never the less the fitment for our car was not very good and ultimately led to me choosing to remove it. |
So time and technology marches on I guess, this system appears to be a simple blower, but these days you can actually get cooling systems that use Thermal Electric Devices (TEDs) that produce either cool or warm air, depending upon the polarity of the electricity passed through them.
It seems this OEM type technology is available now in the aftermarket. Seat upholstery obviously needs to be swapped out with perforated leather (or vinyl), and then you can install these kits to have OEM like heated and cooled seats.. Not sure how the heated air is verses the heating elements in the seat, but I can tell you our Mazda CX-5's cooled seats are REALLY nice in the summer, no longer having to arrive with a sweat soaked back/shirt.. https://leatherseats.com/shop/seat-c...r-cooler-unit/ This site also offers replacement perforated seat covers for 86's as well. With the cooling units coming in at $375/seat, and the replacement leather covers at $1000- $1,600 depending on the leather option, it isn't a cheap proposition, and the install looks pretty involved, but pretty cool (pun intended) none-the-less.. So as our illustrious leadership says, "with the significance of the passage of time" :bonk: |
