I think it was clear that my statement was a personal opinion, and not a fact that needed to be disputed, or an ultracrepidarian statement. I'm not sure where the statement about being authentic came from, as I too would never base a purchase on ego, but rather the quality, and reputation of the company - which you can find in companies that make replicas as well. There are also companies like ROTA that "base" a wheel design off of another, yet are a reputable company, and in that regard I wouldn't consider them as the sort of replica product I was referring to - in that regard the RPF1, etc would likely be considered a replica wheel design.
You don't need to justify the rationale behind your purchase decisions; if you're making a conscious, informed, and weighed decision than I think you're doing it right, and clearly not the type of person I was referring to.
I also agree about the mudflap statement - where I live it rains a lot, and they shower the roads with gravel in the winter. Those were my first purchase after getting the car to protect it from all of that spray, and road debris; I also don't see how anyone could justifiably bash them - if nothing else, they're preventing debris from being tossed up at the car(s) behind you.
