Ferodo DS2500 installation issues
 

I installed my DS2500 pads (front and rear) last night. The rear ones didn't have any issues with installation. Although, I had to take the oem shims out since I couldn't close the caliper.

The front pads, though, gave me some issues. Even without the oem shims, the calipers did not want to close. I didn't get a chance to check my rotor thickness but I've used it for 2 years with numerous autox and track days. I had to get off maybe 1mm of material from the guide pin to get it to close.

Did anybody have this issue? Thanks!

Are you sure the pistons are retracted all the way?
You can try opening the nipple and pushing the piston a little more.

Oh, the pistons where retracted just fine. It goes over both pads. It's the guide pin that was preventing me from closing the caliper. :(

I just put on DS2500 pads about a month ago with no problems. I didn't use the OEM shims either, but I probably could've :iono:

What do you mean "closing the caliper"?

I was able to use all the OEM shims perfectly fine with DS2500's. I ran into no issues installing them.

@wparson, I meant putting the caliper back to where I can install the slide pin bolt.

I should've measured the thickness of the pad prior to installing them. Seems like there's no issues w/ installing the pads with oem shims. I'll check it again after work to see if there's something blocking the slide pins from going in more.

Once I got them installed though, there's no binding.

Are they blocking the caliper from going far enough onto the pads, or are you just having trouble lining up the slider bolt hole? Were the rotors coming unseated on the hub, making things line up funny?

Any time I've swapped pads, the caliper will actually slide on further than needed so you need to wiggle it around to find the spot where the holes actually line up.

Yup, that would be it. The slide pin was blocking the caliper from lining up. The rotors seemed like it was seated properly, though I'll check it again. I don't really know what else it could be causing it. It might be the slide pins not going in enough though the exact same problem happened in both left and right sides. :(

Confirm the pins are on the top? Maybe you were putting the inside ones on the outside and vice versa?

The pads don't have an inside or outside...

Any pictures of it when it's not lining up? Did you try pulling the slider boot in a bit so the caliper will slide down further?

I find it's a bit annoying to line up the slider bolts, but I've never had an issue of getting the caliper on far enough. I'm on my 2nd set of DS2500's on the front, and swap between stock pads and the DS2500's every winter/summer.

How do you think those pads perform for non-track usage? I was considering them for D.D. and some track/auto x use and somewhere in the Ferodo literature it said they were NOT for street use, so I didn't go that route. Still on stock.

My bad, didn't know the ds2500's don't have those pins like stock.

Quite the dust monsters if you like to keep it clean, especially if your wheels are brighter. Mine are silver. I dd on them just fine though, and they feel great.
