MAPerformance FRS/BRZ Turbo Kit Part 2

Hey everyone! As all of you are aware, there is absolutely no shortage of force induction kits for the FRS/BRZ platform, (which is not a bad thing:D) but we are always looking for ways that we can improve on our own kit. We are very proud of our kit, and we know it's a great choice for some people. However, we can't deny the fact that there are other cheaper alternatives that get the job done. So we took a step back to see what we could do to be more competitive, and cater to different budgets. Now, there are a few different ways to go about this. We could look into turbo kits made over seas and brand them as ours, or outsourcing of other fabricated parts and accessories. Although those options were close to fruition, we felt we needed to stick with our company goals of providing quality in house fabricated parts, at a fair price, while maintaining exceptional customer service. So we decided to make a pretty simple, yet effective change. Currently our turbo kits consist of a scheduled 10 stainless steel manifold. This is a strong, beefy unit, but it's quite expensive, and labor intensive to make. However, switching to a 16 gauge design, we were able to reduce the price in materials, but more importantly, shave 6 hours of fabrication labor! This should reduce the price of our complete kit down to a more competitive price level. Customers will be able to choose between the manifolds of their choice. We are currently still in the R&D phase of things, but I did snap a few shots during my lunch break. Don't hesitate to hit me up with any questions you may have!

Nice looking manifold, I like the unique style you guys have to your kit. Even though a 16ga manifold will work just fine (my own is 16ga) it's sucks to see a high quality American shop making alterations just in the name of price to compete with the cheap over seas stuff.

I agree. I can see both sides of it. It's not like these are expensive cars to begin with, so the fact that people have to drop $6,7k+ for simple FI can be a slight turn off to some customers. I am just glad we are able to still keep fabrication in house, and and not outsourced.

Thanks for the kind words! The kit is pretty much going to stay the same. We might end up just offering different manifold options to reduce the overall cost a bit.

May I suggest some cost saving ideas? You could mate the DP to a stock overpipe location. Also if there is an alternative way to route the piping such that a custom rad support is not required.

We are doing just that! This kit will not offer an overpipe. Downpipe will bolt up directly to the factory overpipe. We really want to keep the intercooler piping the way it is. It is part of what makes our kit unique. And honestly, those radiator supports from Toyota are not expensive at all:thumbsup:

Awesome keep up the great work, hope to see more of your kits out there!

Got some updated pics today. We plan to also offer this kit with an external dump rather than plumbing it back into the downpipe to also save on some labor cost.

So Smooth!

So....i take it was mostly a material expense vs. mandrel bending? The welding time would be the same either way basically right.

Appreciate you making it simple and cost effective!

MAPerformance 07-30-2015 07:53 PM

Close. Our schedule 10 manifold do cost more in materials alone, but it is also 5 hours more labor to weld because there are more pieces involved.

What's the ballpark price for this turbo kit? I've been throwing around the idea of driving my car down to you guys from Michigan, letting you install/tune it, and then flying back to get the car. Don't tempt me!

MAPerformance 07-31-2015 11:45 AM

No set price as of yet. But we are thinking it's going to be $500-$800 cheaper than our current base kit. We might also do a coupon on top of it when we release this kit. Most likely to get it under 4k.
