Rear 3D Printed 6.5" Coax Speaker Adapters

I see there are others on this forum with 3D printer skills (which is awesome!) and wanted to share my latest creation.

The factory speakers in our car are actually very nice compared to most, but those 3.5" in the back are barely audible. I have a pair of 6.5" Focal Coaxial speakers I had in my Nissan Leaf before I posted it for sale and thought "let's make an adapter!"

So last night I spent about 1.5 hours creating the adapter for the speaker in Solidworks.

After my Blitz intake adapter is finished printing (about 10 more minutes) I will begin printing off the speaker adapter so I can post some photos of the real thing later today. And as always - if anyone wants this print file after I've installed it and confirmed everything is perfect, I'm more than happy to send it to you :party0030:

I'd love the file afterwards, would be nice to fit better speakers in the rear

You got it! 2.5 hours to print off the first 1/2 of the adapter (my printer is limited to a 9" x 6" print area) and then another 1.5 hours to print off the 2nd half. By this afternoon I should know how good the fitment is.

Thanks, looking forwards to seeing the real thing also pics of it in situ would be nice if possible

I had to print the bracket in 2 pieces and super glue it together due to the limitations of my print bed, but it fits perfect and the speaker magnet sits just under 1" from the metal.

@TurboBRZ
If you feel like earning a little money for your time, put it on Shapeways.com . I'd be glad to toss $25 your way for a beer or three, no probs.

I have a hub on 3D Hubs where I print things for people locally (or non local if they want it shipped) as a part-time hobby. But right now I have the hub closed as I'm in the middle of packing up my house to sell it so I can get some acreage and build a decent garage on it.

If you want one I have no problems printing it for you - just shoot me a PM and we'll work out the details.

Wow that looks great!
Did you also have to modify the panel that covers the speaker?

I'm really curious too on you did the speaker grill. Any pics?

SilverFRS 08-02-2015 05:35 PM

How does it sound? Do the rear speakers get full range signal?

I wonder about putting some free air 6.5" subs there, might be able to get some decent bass out of there if you deadened and sealed the area to make a nice enclosure out of it. I may give this a shot if you can let me know how deep of speaker you can fit there that would be great.
