What application would you like your car to be best at?
What will it be doing most of the time? (this can be much more important than the one above!)
What's your budget?

As an example:
I'd like it to be responsive on the track.
I want to be able to comfortably drive to any track in North America.
I drive it everyday.
My budget is $1500.
Bilstein B14s!

My experience with St on the streets for daily driving has been excellent. A little under damped at very low mph but then again this is something that many won't notice. It's very compliant and uses oem top mount which keeps NVH stock. I just upgraded the top mounts to raceseng and couldn't be happier. The ST have a slotted lower mount hole to allow for a little camber adjustment with oem bolts.

adamg 07-27-2015 09:04 AM

st if you plan on hitting a track or acting like a track guy. BC if you want the camber plates for the top and want to go low. Megans are great on numerous cars but for the money on our platform, it doesnt make sense

Those are $1700 on their website. Are they less expensive elsewhere?

ST XTA.

Awesome on the street. A bit underdamped at low speeds between like 20 and 35 mph.

Awesome on the track if your car is corner balanced and set up well.

I love mine.

Oakhenshield 07-27-2015 10:18 AM

Well i want to get a coilover in a few weeks and same as this guy i cant decide..
hope i could find siomething here :D

You can get KW V3's for $1800. Silly to pay that much for T0's. I'd go with ST if that's your budget.

KW makes great suspension.

The raceseng top hats look awesome! Have you ever had any experience with the STI top hats, or the KYB ones? :threadjacked:

8R6 07-27-2015 12:22 PM

ST for daily drivers.

Megan and BC are just to get the car super low, but thats about it. imo, junk otherwise. most likely made by the same manufacturer in taiwan too.

Not that I'm aware of, but an extra $200 for better damping seems like a bargain to me.

Never had the chance, went straight to the cascams from raceseng, noticeable difference in steering feel with the added caster and plenty of camber. The pieces fit perfectly.

This^^^. BC is a higher quality version of the Megans but are made by the same people and therefore still cheap. They are valved generically and not car specific. Meaning that their coils for a 350z can have the same exact valving for our car or even a Mustang.

I haven't seen anything outside of advertising to suggest the T0s are worth their premium over the Bilsteins. I didn't look very deep, though. Care to help?

RSR's are awesome for DD and light track duty.
Very smooth and forgiving on the streets thanks to the NVH reducing tophats.
I've only done 1 track day so far but they felt great and you can really feel the dampening adjustments.

Yes..... and you saw the pics of what they looked like

And who's Meghan??? :bonk:

yomny 07-27-2015 05:24 PM

I think RSR's are a little out of budget. Those were the coils I wanted but higher end of 1k.

Bergen23 07-27-2015 05:31 PM

Fortune Auto 500's come to mind. They're around 1200. Add in swift springs and conical bearings (can never remember if that's what they're called or not, someone please correct me if I'm wrong) and call it a day.

I have the DSG special Edition Fortune Auto 500's with the upgrades and they're amazing. Blow my old GodSpeed's out of the water. Although for ~$800-900 coils, the GodSpeed's weren't awful, and I'd probably buy them again.

They posted their shock dynos a while ago, but I have no idea where now. Sorry

Sounds like you're looking at the ~$1000 USD price point. Well, I've posted this before and I'll post it again:

With Bilstein B14's at $1000, it boggles my mind why anyone would go for the other lower quality brands like BC, D2, and Megan for the same price. For quality, reliability, and durability for a daily driver, the Bilstein B14 should be a no-brainer.

I've been on the fence between the b14s and bcs with the swift upgrade only reason I'm leaning more towards bcs is the adjustability of them out of the box. Why are b14s so much better?

Because they aren't looked at as "the cheap option". Lots of people have lots of opinions on cheap coils being shitty, never having used them.

Bilstein has quite a reputation for exceptional valving.

solidONE 07-28-2015 02:36 AM

No sure about how the Skunk 2 perform, but they are around that price range as well. They seem to do a fair amount of R&D before they release new products.

Or if you can wait, there are some new Tein dampers that are about to be released and they're already getting some good reviews.

Phantobe 07-28-2015 02:49 AM

If you can afford to wait I'd keep an eye on the Tein Flex Z

Release should be ~August this year.

2JZ-GTE 08-01-2015 04:13 AM

Thanks guys for all of your input! for my car im using it as DD so i want little bit stiffER then stock but not TOO stiff.....:D Ill look into Bilstein B14 !

Is there any other "good" coilovers that's around $1000??

JGalp 08-01-2015 04:31 PM

for that price I've been hearing the ST and the bilsteins a lot. but I've heard alot about the flex Z coming out this month or the next that should be way better for the same if not less money

I doubt it will be "way better" by the nature of its twin tube construction. It will likely be a great value for the money, though.

Tein has done a lot of work for this car. I have previously been disappointed with tein dampers, but that was almost 10 years ago. I'm sure they've improved since then and reviews seem to say they have.

The Tien Flex Zs are arriving to US retailers now. About $900ish.
