Just installed full exhaust, have a question or two..

Over the weekend I installed full exhaust, header back, tomei uel, motive op and fp and n1 catback, all catless. I love the sound of it but I have a "metal" "tinny" sound somewhere that I thought was an exhaust leak so I had my wife cover the tips while I listened around cant hear anyy "pft pft" sound like leaks I've had in other vehicles in the past. The noise isn't there all the time only really when it's under a load, i also am using a oft with stg2 uel93 tuneand tried watching real time display but I'm a huge noob to stuff like that so not exactly sure what I'm looking at,only kinda seen a few things here to say watch the trim(forgot what it's called exactly ) but my numbers seem fine while on the gas. Only go kinda weird or "up" when it's at idle or off the gas. Won't be able to get back on stands till the weekend to double check all my joints but I only found one leak at the op/fp junction after the install, swapped the gasket and it was gone. That's the only one I found for sure. Sorry to carry on,just trying to get it all out while it's fresh on the mind. Just looking for help or advice to figure out if it's normal with catless setup or if there's something I need to fix, Thanks I'm advance.

I believe the sound you are hearing is rasp, from having no catalytic converter or any sound dampening parts of the exhaust.

The tinny sound you hear is the AVCS compesating for the torque dip. I have OFH and OFT stage 2 tune. Mine does the exact same thing. It's right around 3500-3700 rpm. Especially noticeable when you're in gear and decelerating.

I hope that's all it is because trying to find a leak was driving me nuts. Question for either of yall, is there a specific location that sounds most noticeable? Because I still can't pinpoint exactly where it's at. To me it literally sounds like it's air flowing through the fp, which is where I've checked at least 5x now.

If your running the oft UEL tune you should not get the raspy sound arround 4000 as the vvt cam timings for uel header is much less agressive than for el header.

most aftermarket headers are made of thinner lighter material than stock header and do not have the heat shields resulting in more noise than stock header comming from front of car. They will sound diffrent. whoosing noises or some tinny resonance especially if you have removed cats and resonators is common

Also check to see if the OP is potentially hitting anything. It's possible that under load it's moving around enough to tap the subframe.

I think I remember reading about someone having that problem with the rattle against the frame with the op. IIRC, they heat wrapped it or something so it wasn't metal on metal (but I could be way wrong) :bonk:

Yea that's one thing I saw too,and something I plan on checking when I get it back in the air. Thanks

One thing I will say though,is it doesn't sound like it would be a rattle, more of a .. Air swooshing through a metal pipe,is the best description I can come with. Maybe if it's a really light rattle but I don't know,so plan on checking anyway, I've also heard of some people having a rattle against the skip plate? That sound like a possibility?

if it sounds like a whoosh then it is definitely just because of the new headers. I specifically remember driving for the first time after my install and pulling over and jumping on the forums to see if that was normal lol. sounds like you are just fine.

how did you have your wife cover the exhaust tips? lol

Lol, two older (clean) car wash sponges stuffed in the tips.
