Father's Birthday Ideas
Hello wonderful people of the forum, I need your help! My father is turning 65 soon, and I need help thinking of gift ideas. He's a straight-laced, educator, professional, world-traveler, athlete who would always choose going on an adventure over sitting on his ass. For example, at this very moment he's on a week long kayak trip around the San Juan islands.
The cliched beer/bbq/novelty gifts have no relevance to his lifestyle, and for the life of me I can't think of something to get him for when he comes to town in a couple of weeks. So I'm putting it out to you fine people of the internet, and asking for help coming up with something unique! Any ideas? |
He is at the age where he has experienced everything in life and not many material things would do much for him.
Go on a trip with him. A grand child. Stuff for his travelling, a garmin, good running/hiking shoes or boots. A dream car or something he needed to sacrifice for his children. |
set him on fire and then put him out ... he will never forget that
|
Is he into cars?
|
if hes into cars set his car on fire and then put it out

Good ideas keep em coming. Agreed on him already experienced enough things that he doesn't just need more nonsense stuff sitting around. I like the hiking boots idea though, bet he could use a new pair. Also, he used to be really into cars, but now not so much. Eventually I will surprise him with buying him one of the classic cars he had to sell when us kids came along (Austin Healey/MG-C). But that won't be anytime soon what with me buying my own house and whatnot.
Definitely going to scratch off the list both a grand-child and lighting him on fire though. Thanks anyway? |
he will be thankful

try to bring back a favorite memory for him??
for my fathers 60th, i just so happened to run into a guy with a restored Datsun 240z at a local car cruise night i attend, we got to talking etc etc, told him my father used to own one and what not.. long story short, the guy and i talked for a few weeks about the idea of letting my dad borrowing it for the day, ive never seen my father smile so big before! he said it was the most fun he has had in years! |

This is not one thing my kids can buy for me that I don't already have or could buy for myself. Spend some time with him doing something he would enjoy especially if you don't see him often. I get more out of a $30 round of golf with my Son every birthday and Father's day than any material object he could hand me and run. |
Thanks guys! I'm going to split it right down the middle of what you guys recommended. It's true that he is way better off than me, and could easily buy anything that he actually needs, so I'll probably get him something simple that will aid in his adventures, and also take him to the lake for some wakeboarding or maybe an afternoon at the greens.
Cheers gentlemen! /thread |
