Toyota FT-86 weight -- take your guesses

Like everyone was hoping to hear about the FT-86 concept's weight at the Tokyo show. I'm sure we'll get this data eventually but for now what does everyone guess the weight is?

I'm assuming that Tetsuya Tada (Chief Engineer of this project) is saying that (roughly translating). & ppl who can read Japanese can make sure I'm not BS'ing and prove me that what I'm translating is true.

Subaru 2 Liter Boxer Engine's Mark Performance is 230ps, but I feel that this number is bit greedy. If we can hold the car's weight to 1200kg (2645 lbs), 180~200ps should be plenty of power. In the first place Light Weight Sport car isn't pursing for high speed. Speed and over the limit performance are when they fail the size of the risk is proportionally big/high.

... that means I pray might be heard of having the weight of 2600ish?

I voted 2600-2699 but im sure it will be closer to 2800

2500-2599 for me. :iono:

Like I've said a few times now, I want <2600 lbs, but expect >2800 lbs.

Last celica was around 2500lbs and so is the miata. FT-86 is similar in size to both those so I don't see why they can't hit the 1200kg target weight.

I bet ever increasing safety regulations make it difficult to hit the 1200kg target.

I agree 100%. Based on the recent statement by Tada, I'd say it's going to be right around 2600 lbs, although the concept was allegedly quite a bit heavier.

Yeah why not!

In fact the celica is 1100KG (2425lbs) with a 1.8L
The new Mazda Mx5 2.0L is at 1130kg(2490lbs) for the 5speed and 1145kg(2525lbs) for the 6speed

i think it will be less than 2800

People that keep using 2 seat convertibles and cars from the mid 90s as a reference point are not factoring this in.

I think that it'll be feasible to be less than 2800 (it better, with a <200hp engine) and I think most think it'll be less than 2800. How much less is the big question I guess.

I'm hopeful for a superlight car, but voted 2700-2800 pounds. With modern safety requirements and fancy modern day electronics / technology, I just think it's much harder to keep weight down in any car these days..... though I think if anyone can do it, it's Toyota (see Yaris).
