New frs owner few questions

I just picked up my new 15 frs MT a few days ago. It's been about 10 years since I sold my last MT car.

1 I am having a rough time with 2nd gear. It doesn't want to slide in as it does with the other gears. Is this my car specific or a known quirk? I've seen some report issues after mods but my car is as delivered. It had 72 miles on it when I bought it.

2 has anyone found a Canadian dealer to ship the trunk liner to the U.S.? If not I think I'll be taking a road trip.

Thx!

1. Rev it higher. :) Let the car warm up more, drive in low gear abit longer before you go up.

2. I didn't, I got mine during my trip there. It's really nice cuz you don't have to worry about tires making the back of ur car dirty.

It's common on all of the manual FR-S with the stock transmission fluid while they are still cold. Once it warms up, it'll slide right into second like any other gear.

You can always double clutch and make sure you are perfectly rev-matched as you slide into 2nd until the transmission is warmed up. In the winter here in WI when it is like -20 or worse, I have a really tough time if it isn't warmed up and as long as I do this, it'll get into 2nd.

Or, change your transmission fluid! Use the search feature - there are dozens of threads about this.

CONGRATULATIONS on your purchase, ....... fridayfrs ..........

Well, now, that seems to be a fairly common situation.

As mentioned above, a warmer transmission is a happier transmission.

In addition, I would suggest that when shifting, wind up the last gear pretty tight before shifting into the next higher gear.

Also, when shifting from 1st to 2nd, pull the shift lever slowly and firmly into 2nd gear ....... same for 2-3 (except push it).

It's not a toggle switch ..... the lever is moving heavy transmission parts.

Thanks all! (Not enough posts to thank yet) I am going to look into a fluid change. I have to find someone to do it for me for right now.

I've read Royal Purple products (ex synthetic manual transmission fluid) are great. The 8th Civic Si guys swear by it with their bad 3rd gear synchros.

I did a fluid change at 30k miles that was less improvement than just driving it for 30k miles, my car is now at 40k miles and it feels better than the day I drove it off the lot regarding the powertrain/transmission.

I would recommend waiting a couple thousand if not tens of thousands of miles before swapping out the transmission fluid, no reason to chuck it out imo the transmission is workable.

And yes, totally normal what you describe.
