Throttle Body Increase

Hey guys, so out of boredom and curiosity I did a bit of part hunting, and came across a few strange Japanese companies with decently affordable parts.

Now I've never heard of them before, but apparently they go by Ankglid and Auto Craft Evolution.

Here's where it gets kind of weird; Ankglid makes a bigger Throttle Body, but I can find it's actual size ANYWHERE. http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/2...150743455.html

They also make decently cheap suspension parts that look good quality, but are absurdly cheap.

Next is Auto Craft Evolution; they make plenty of suspension parts but have two unique pieces that caught my eye; ya know, besides absurdly cheap suspension parts too.

A 67mm Throttle Body, and apparently a 70mm adapter-hinge-plate-whatever.

How exactly could you use the 70mm piece anyway? Is it just a deep spacer or does it allow the throttle body to be bored out more to fit it?

I know these are dumb questions, but I figure it's worth pulling out some unique stuff to share.

Usually larger TBs start off as stock TBs. Then get bored out. How much increase is limited to wall thickness. Then an appropriately larger throttle plate is installed.

Makes sense, but what purpose is there in having a wider section than the rest if it's just getting pulled from 67 to 70 to 65 again for the entrance to the manifold? Is it just inducing more pressurized airflow?

Improved throttle response.

Even by creating an air pocket in a non-linear manner? I'm wondering how that pressure feeds additional air if the 70mm piece is a sandwich piece and not the entrance.

It is a volumetric flow vs velocity flow thing. It isn't pressure, it is more like pressure loss(which is next to nothing).

Unless you are just trying to learn the concepts(which this forum is bad for this particular subject), don't waste your money/time thinking about a throttle body on a engine that isn't built or has f/i. The head can only flow so much air and the bottle neck is closer to the internals rather than the external bolt ons. Same with the Exhaust side(header makes 10-15hp while exhaust makes 5hp max). Look for intake manifolds(or power blocks), cams, heads, valve train, internals. All of which are not cheap.

If you are staying n/a go for the best header you can afford(ace/jdl/etc) and then get a tune with Ecutek or OFT and E85. Hp per dollar that is the best bang for the buck and after that it would be forced induction.
