Hole in valve cover

Did a spin through the Smoky Mountains today. Got back to the hotel in Knoxville. Saw oil in belly pan. Grabbed a flashlight. There's a hole in my driver's side valve cover right over the rear most intake cam lobe.
No CELs. It doesn't sound terrible. It drove for quite a while, apparently, without issue with it, as I was smelling a bit of oil down in NC. Bizarre.
I'm guessing it's another case of an escaped rocker pin, but I can't image why it'd wait until 50k to fail.

50k? Still within powertrain warranty! Keep us updated on how that goes - good luck!

Can you see the hole? Maybe a leaking cam plate. hope you get it resolved.

A hole in the cover =\= cam plate leak.

Most probably yes, failed rocker pin. Are you FI? I'm amazed to see it happen to an NA car if it is.

On the right is the brake master cylinder. Through the hole is the rear most intake cam lobe. The hole is centered over the lobe, so the lobe pushed something against the valve cover. Cam won. Cover lost.

Yep, that's a hole alright ....... :(

Back in the day, we would have mixed up a small batch of bondo, filled the hole ..... and hoped for the best ...... ;)

Well it ain't new. Pretty sure at least 20% of the gas tank and fuel line on my 64 SS was made up of the stuff.

The problem isn't so much the hole as the fact that something had to have made it.

Dealer has ordered parts. From the list it sounds like it was a rocker failure. They took pictures of the process for warranty purposes. I asked for the pictures. As soon as I get them I'll be sharing.

It's not the first hole I've had the privilege of interacting with.
