2014 Changes Already?

How do you guys feel about this? Only on the market for a short while and already some major changes planned.

I feel a little uneasy about this. Is this a cop-out on potential issues with current FR-S/BRZ models? Does this practice really give us early-adopters confidence in our purchase and the brand?

Imagine you walk off the lot with your new car and the first thing you hear is about how it's being improved in the next year.

Dont have mine yet but I would be mad if I did. I may be forced financially to wait a year or so. But major changes indicates unresolved issues.

I expected as much, did not affect my purchase decision. I am waiting for TRD to release a supercharger as that would be something I am interested in.

How have the TRD Supercharger's been for all-season reliability in the past on other platforms?

Hey, look, I can post as an expert on something! :happyanim:

I have been running the Vortech TRD supercharger on my tC for almost 4.5 years now, and its been a good piece of equipment year-round. There have been some known issues with the setup changes they made for the 07 model year (which I have), but assuming TRD does their homework, this would be a solid piece of equipment. However, you can expect this to be AT LEAST a $4000 (US) upgrade, unless they charge even more because this is a legitimate sports car. I hope I'm wrong.

Others I know who have had the S/C have never had issues with it, winter/spring/summer/fall. If anything, its more fun in the winter, thanks to the denser air. :D

You can play the waiting game forever. Next year's model will always have mechanical, features, and/or styling improvements. Or you can just jump in and enjoy it now. These proposed changes may improve a few numbers on paper but won't significantly affect the already through the roof "fun" quotient.

How else are cars suppose to evolve? I knew this would happen before I bought mine and didn't stop me. That's why im leasing mine. I will enjoy it for a few years, and if the next one is better, I will switch. Until then, this article only showed one thing they were changing. And it looks like the intake setup could be the cause of the torque dip possibly. So a few hundred dollars in some quality aftermarket parts and a tune should fix this as well as bring more power than this new "FA201" anyways...You never know what car companys are going to do. Would I be pissed if I bought a 2009 Mazdapeed 3 just to find out shortly after they redesigned it? Hell no, cause the new one is ugly!!! Sometimes when a car is done just right, its hard to improve too much.

These changes motivated me to buy early. I did not want those changes.

What do you think the R&D team does after they finish the current model year designs?

Often you can buy a car, only to have it changed for the better the next year. But sometimes in my experience (especially with increasing nanny-state regulations on vehicles) they can be made worse. Ask Mini drivers how they felt about going from the 06 to the 07 Mini Cooper S.

Honestly? If more understeer isn't dialed in in the next couple of years on the FR-S at least, I'll be very surprised.

Theres going to be changes every year regardless just like the gtr.

You will wait for the 2014 then they show off the 2015 changes then the 2016 refresh...

I knew going into this that I was essentially a beta tester for Toyobaru. My entire life is devoting to beta testing this and that, so it doesnt really surprise or bother me.

I don't see it as being a big deal. If it's anything like any other car I've bought that ahs had the same happen to it, I usually end up upgrading pieces to the motor in the first place, so I do not see this being a problem

I heard that in 2017, the toyobaru will get a dual sequential supercharger/turbocharger upgrade that will get 50 mpg. Also, holographic HIDs that you can play movies on your garage door with.
