Same general look for one-sixth the cost...
1 Attachment(s)
The Maserati and the FR-S. The FR-S is one-sixth the cost for nearly the same look. Thoughts?
|
Oh WoW!!!
|
Pretty close! The FR-S still has a sexier face though.
|
I definitely agree with this after I saw a Gran Turismo on the road last week; I saw a flashy red car approaching from the opposite end of the road the other day; at a distance of about a quarter mile I fully believed for a second I was about to greet another Firestorm FR-S; the resemblance is there for sure; How the nose points agressively downwards & similar headlight orientation; Then I noticed the huge signature crown in the grille =P
I have to say I like the face of the FR-S more for sure in a drive-by comparison, but what I like most about the Gran Turismo is the more angular and agressive windshield/ roof line; I guess if Toyota wasn't trying to optimize for some cargo space, they could have moved the canopy back a few inches to give that sleeker look with the windshield line =P Overall I was surprised by the similarity between both cars & am pretty happy by it too |
Go to Walmart and buy some stick on port holes-boom-Maserati
|
Hmmm
The Maserati isn't a FR-S statement like: I've thought about this and it makes good sense for me. The FR-S isn't a Maserati statement like: Sukka, ya sukka, ya; mine mine mine, ya loosa. Somehow a Toyobaru is special, and, don't ask me why, but the Maserati isn't. IMO |
To me, a Maserati is the car you buy when you can not quite swing that Ferrari. They are also softer and more touring oriented cars. I also just do not see it, other then proportions.

Nice comparison!
|
The Maseratis are HUGE in person....a very large-wide car..... The polar opposite of the FR-S....BIG HEAVY POWERFUL......vs light nimble energetic....
|
Try with TRD version of the 86 with black rims, you'll be surprise :)
|
What a new and inspiring sentiment! ;)
|
Nice comparison! The funny thing is, I see way more Maseratis in LA than FR-Ss. Hopefully the tide will turn soon.
|
Masarati... all the cost/maintenance of a Ferrari without the prestige or performance of a Ferrari.

Back on topic. I think the fender arches is that makes us think they look very similar. |

Also, these pictures do a pretty good job of comparing the two cars. I think I saw a similar comparison a while ago but the pictures in that one didn't match this well. |
That's ridiculous, the FR-S/BRZ looks much better.
|
I compared both (in the looks), but I just don't see FR-S look like Maserati to me... IDK maybe my eyes need to get check.
I do like both of em for sure :) |
It's only 1/6th of the Maserati.
Don't fool yourself. |
It may look similar, but it is no Maserati.
|
REPLACE WITH TRD MODEL!!! honestly, you pick the done up MC model of the Gran Turismo that looks exactly like the TRD 86 but you put a standard FR-S for comparison. common, laziness?
|
The maserati looks much more sinister, especially in black and you hear it roar.
Looks wise, I'm sure you could fool some uninformed people it's an exotic. |
I pulled up next to a dark blue Maserati coupe today.....the FR-S does look like a little Maserati....of course the snob in the Maserati would'nt even look at me....
I might have to look for the guy I know who tracks his.....it would be super cool to get some video of the FR-S passing the big Maserati on track..... :>) |
I was going to put Toyota badges on my car, but I think I will do Maserati ones instead!
|
One rare occasion I wish I wasn't driving in my FR-S (but rather outside, able to snap a photo): On my lunch run today I caught up to a silver GranTurismo which wound up two lanes over to my right at a light. Would've been nice to get that side-by-side photo.

I was pulling out of Starbucks drive-thru yesterday with my window down; stopped to straighten my drink in my cup holder; guy asks 'what kind of car you have?'
Look over, it's a foreign couple; probably tourists (remember I'm in Las Vegas), tourists everywhere; has Italian accent for real =D 'This is beuatiful! It looks like you have a Maseratti' /thread; when an Italian citizens' first impression of you car is that it looks like a Maseratti, it really does haha! What probably surprised me the most from this event is that he was able to appreciate the modest power even after associating the FR-S with a GranTurismo - 'how much horsepower do you have?' - Only 200 (honest, but humble answer from me in knowing I don't have the most...) 'Only 200? that's enough, it is a small car' Then I realized I was holding up the drive-thru exit xD Just wanted to share my awesome account for the thread! |
OP might want to schedule an opthamologist visit.
|
Great timing on this post - Illusive got asked if our FRS was a Maserati on Sunday. :D

Is there a specific model that actually looks like the FR-S? |
Damn I thought the FR-S was a poor mans LFA but damn its really a poor mans Maserati!

It sure doesn't look like a ferrari, but still not as out of place as I've felt before :)
|
good compare here.

First Maserati I've ever seen in my town, hell, let alone Wyoming, and I decided to park next to it, my wife was less than enthused, especially when I got out with the camera and ran across the street to take this:
|
I think they have the same model Maserati in white on display at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA... while the lines look similar because the BRZ's/FR-S's very classic sports car lines, the Maserati is huge, lol. It looks at least a third bigger--though, sexy as hell. :)
|
I actually looked at a used Maserati Coupe before I bought my FR-S. It's not the same car, not even a little bit. One is a bad ferrari, the other is a better Datsun 240z. I know which one I am happier with.
Also for comparisons sake is was a 2003 with about 75,000 miles on it and was the same price. No major damage and a clear carfax... it had just been around for a while. |
