No. But it does look like it with pearl or metallic flakes, I need an Ultra to compare side by side. No Ultra in 2016 model year

swarb 07-16-2015 08:31 PM

Looks good! Please post pics of it in the shade and at night when you get the chance(and next to an ultramarine). It's going to be lonely here for a bit. Also put the paint code in there somewhere.

Code is K3X

DarthNads 07-18-2015 09:01 PM

It looks a shade brighter than Ultramarine, the UM doesn't have metallic flake IIRC.

themajesticone 07-18-2015 09:55 PM

Looks practically the same - beautiful color nonetheless :)

NemesisPrime909 07-22-2015 01:25 AM

it's a tad more richer than ultramarine

I'm pretty sure ultramarine has metallic flake, at least mine looks like it does.

stevesnj 07-22-2015 11:58 AM

Has to be some difference, why change the name of the color but keep it the same? lol

They may want to change their press release. Would be false advertising.

No...it's not. It is dark blue, but it is not identical.

It could be the same base color but it looks like it has purple and blue and silver flake in it. Dunno if the Ultra has as much flake. It also has Pearl in it, I don't know if the Ultra has Pearl in it.

Here's closer pic. If someone can get a closer pic of the Ultra would be interesting to compare here before the live comparison. Only side by side will the differences would be apparent.

miyoshi82 07-30-2015 07:39 PM

Are there any images of a 2015 UM and 2016 Oceanic next to each other? One of my local dealers has both, but I don't want to drive out there just to see the difference because then I'll be suckered into sitting at a desk with a dealer trying to sell me the car when I'm not ready atm.

Just tell them you want to compare the colors, no need to sit down with a salesman. Just go to the dealer you bought the car from.

miyoshi82 07-30-2015 07:49 PM

Is that a TRD wing in second picture? How did you managed to color match it?

thats a 5Axis spoiler. I got the color code from the Toyota Japan site when they posted it. I looked it up and its a Subaru color code K3X (different from the Ultra code) It's called Lapis Blue Pearl. anyway I got the code and the Votech I work at has an auto body shop and he painted it for me no charge :P

Cool thanks, so any auto body shop should know the color code then? I'm thinking about adding a lip kit on an Oceanic.

The code is on the door sill sticker on passenger side. It's Subaru Lapis Blue Pearl. Been out for a few years

Still waiting on a comparison pic between Oceanic and Ultramarine. Right now it's between Oceanic and Steel for my color of choice.

There is a Steel brz at the dealership. It's a great looking color in all lights. A big improvement over argento imo.

Can't go wrong with either color although I have not seen much of Oceanic blue. I went with silver because it hides scratches/dirt/dust better and would be easy to color match if it was ever needed. Here is the thread to the 1GU (steel/ice silver metallic) http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76889
It has deep dark shadows with a hint of blue. I love mine.

fitcious 08-09-2015 02:36 AM

Ultramarine ftw.

I like Ultra also. It inspired me to get a blue FR-S, plus blue is my personal fav color, but either the ultra has been renamed Oceanic or Oceanic is a different color.

Tell me about it. Love some of the features on the 14R60 Track edition(wider front end and brakes) but i don't think it would ever be possible for me to get those parts here.

I didn't know about the 14R existence though, seems like a "cheaper" version with the 14R60 Street looks but standard brakes, etc...

And that blue one is astonishing. Oh boy.

yeah the 14R is supposed to be the more street-able version of the 14R60. earlier promotional stuff said it was supposed to have the upgraded brakes and coilovers as well but the recent pics of cars actually in the dealers don't have them. the toyota japan website now just lists the aero kit, center exhaust, forged rims, various interior bits etc. the rear wing is now listed as optional on the 14R.

fitcious 08-14-2015 02:40 PM

Here's a pic of the UM vs Oceanic. UM on the left (my car). The Oceanic color has a purple tint to it. Attachment 117836
