Forced Induction Servicing

Hi Guys, Quick question.

Do you take your car to scion for a service even if you have forced induction?

Thanks

No. If you cannot work on a FI setup yourself, IMO you have no business boosting an 86. A factory boosted car and adding FI to a factory N/A car are very different.

He might have meant for just general servicing, not servicing the FI system? Although your answer may still apply.

He may just have a free service plan or something similar from his dealer, and still wants to take advantage of it.

OP: I personally would not take my supercharged car to a dealer. If they decide your FI voids the warranty, they can blacklist the car, and it'll be very hard to finagle your way out of it. I have all my work and service done at a performance racing mechanic who I trust.

Yes, but are you willing to take the chance they are going to "enjoy" your car? Service requires a test drive unless you specifically ask for no test drive. Chances are they will drive it anyways.

Your car comes back damaged and all they say is, sorry, aftermarket parts broke it, not us. Good luck.

If you can afford cosworth parts, you can afford some oil changes.

This!

Any local speed shops that provide routine maintenance on FI cars?

Dealership may frown on the FI unless they are mod friendly. Call the service manager and find out.

Whats to stop a normal mechanic going for a joy ride opposed to a dealership's mechanic? Just a thought.

My mechanic mostly works on track-built Porsches and BMWs, meaning I probably have one of the most boring and least-sporty cars they work on. Compare that to a mechanic who works on Corollas and Camrys all day, where my car might be the coolest thing he's worked on that year. My rule of thumb for picking mechanics and bodyshops is that my car shouldn't be the "coolest" one there

Hahah thats not a bad strategy :P Its so hard to find a good mechanic! If youve got cheap services with the dealer its probably worth a try to go through them. The Toyota dealerships in Australia seem very professional, i dont think they would tolerate any employees driving irresponsibly/joyriding in cars.
