First trackday with my GT86
I took my GT86 to Bedford Autodrome in Buckinghamshire on Monday, the first time I have used the car on track. For reference, the car has a Sprintex supercharger and HKS coil over suspension. I had researched a good bit before embarking on track with the car. In light of my research I fitted an HKS oil cooler and a two quart Accusump, and changed the lubricant to Motul 300v 5w30. I also fitted Toyo R888 tyres in 235/40/17 on the Rota wheels, and upgraded the front brake pads to Ferodo DS2500's
The car was brilliant! There was a good mix of cars on the day - several E46 m3's, my friend in his E36 m3, a handfull of Porsche 911's, BMW m5, Aston Vantage and a completely stock GT86. I didn't get passed by a single car all day! I fairly flew past the standard GT86, and the owner approached me in the paddock afterwards to ask about my car, as he was shocked by how fast I had gone past him! I also discovered that Porsche and Aston Martin owners do not like moving over to let a humble Toyota past!
I followed my friend in his E36 m3, heavily modified, for several laps. I found I could hook onto his rear bumper and stay with him very easily, but I think I would have struggled to pass him. After about six laps my oil temperature crept above 110 degrees centigrade, and I backed off to let the car cool down.
All in all a brilliant day! The next outing for the car is Goodwood on 8th August. I rent the track for an August Saturday every year, and my friends come to enjoy the circuit. My step father and my best friend will be sharing the little GT86 for the day. I will be driving my E46 m3 and my Caterham Seven. We also have a some disadvantaged kids coming on the day, to give them the thrill of some hot-laps. I'll get some pictures of the event to post up.
