Doing an episode of Better Tires VS Coilovers.

JonAvalon 07-09-2015 08:56 PM

Was about to post this, great to see them feature a twin :)

soulreapersteve 07-09-2015 09:04 PM

Question is, will those fit in my Honda?

Sideways 07-09-2015 09:43 PM

Great to see them with these cars. Nice video!!

Mad1723 07-09-2015 09:57 PM

The only problem I have is that they used the crappiest tires available instead of using stock tires, probably because the cars that were loaned didn't have them or something. If they would have used stock tires, they probably would have had less of a difference in my opinion.

Otherwise, fun little video :D

Watched it on the train this morning. Good ep. They need to make an 86 Project car soon.

Ah now to scroll down and read the 14 year old never driven a car before "Underpowered" and "Too slow" comments.

The tires are the only thing about your car that actually interface with the pavement. I knew the outcome of this test before it started. It also wasn't surprising to see the difference between the sticky tires vs sticky tires+coilovers was very small.

For those occasional track day guys, this should be welcomed information because better tires is an easy button for better times without having have to sacrifice your ride quality (or ability to get over a speed bump) on your daily driver by lowering and stiffening your ride.

#1 rule when it comes to a youtube vid about a Twin, or any video in general, never scroll down to read the comments.

You also forgot "this car a piece of shit".

I just watched the episode and it was interesting how they went about the test. I guess i'll go with new tires to start.

Yep, it does make me wonder how many of these users have actually driven a car before.

From my experience any of the following occurs.
  • Compare it to a faster, but more expensive car
  • Compare it to a tuned car, always assuming the twin is stock
  • My dads/brothers/friends/etc <carbrand> would smoke a twin!
  • Insistence that because it has no turbo, and isn't 250bhp+ that its crap
  • Repeatedly drone on about how the car is slow
  • Compare twins new price to a used price of a "faster" car.
  • Pack mentality of other clueless users piling on board because they want to fit in

I use adblock plus element hider plugin to rid youtube of the comments section entirely.

Now that the 86 is showing up in some video games we should see a change in the comments. It will soon be called "super fast" and "can beat anything with more power".

Before anyone asks why we didnt test stock car on srock tyres. because:
1 - 86s and their sister cars use different tyres in different countries
2 - it wasnt an "86" test, it was a tyre test so it needed to be valid overall, not just for an 86
3- didnt want to "bash" Toyota but showing how bad their tyres are when they purposely put cheap tyres in to make car more fun.

DarkSunrise 07-10-2015 08:24 AM

To summarize:

86 w/BC coilovers (and no-name tires) = 52.2 s
86 w/RE003 tires (and stock suspension) = 50.8 s
86 w/BC coilovers + RE003 tires = 49.7 s

Never heard of RE003 tires btw. Is that Bridgestone's entry-level sport tires?
