OFT newbie with a question

I'm a hands-on mechanical person, so I feel silly that I have to ask about this, but I'm having trouble and couldn't find my answer in the threads where I looked. This is my first car with a flashable ECU, and I'm not very comfortable with computer things in general. I have a 2014 BRZ with the OFT that I recently installed. The car has bolt-on mods, including a catless header. I installed the "Stage 2 EL" tune that was preloaded on the tablet, and the car seems fine.

The problem is that I would like to change the launch control RPM and have the ability to change the rev limiter RPM. What I need is a step-by-step instruction of how to do this; trust me when I say you can't dumb it down too much. I've spent a couple of hours trying to figure it out, and I've gotten nowhere. I went to RomRaider's ECU editor like I thought I needed to, and I just get error messages. I'm obviously doing something wrong, but all of this software terminology is making it impossible for me to figure it out.

HELP!

I got the OFT because it sounded like it would be easy enough even for me, but I'm getting very frustrated.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLASH YOUR EDITED ROM.

The info is here, it's just hard to wade through.

The OFT is designed to be easy to use even for those with no tuning experience. But "easy to use" means easy to flash preload off-the-shelf tunes into the ECU. However, making adjustments through Rom Raider does require some knowledge. There is really no getting around that. Long story short, you will need to install Rom Raider and load the appropriate XML file through the Definition file manager. Once you do that, you will be able to view and edit the OTS file. Both the XML file and the OTS map can be downloaded off our website. Currently overseas right now and about to drive from Italy to Zurich but I'm sure others can give you more info/help if needed :)

Cheers
Shiv

The oft is easy to use, tuning and adjusting individual parameters within a complex engine control unit using romraider will require some reading and understanding.

see link below for info , probably start with OFT TIPS

I thought I had done this, but when I go into RomRaider and open the ECU Editor, it says I the definitions aren't configured. I don't know what that means, nor do I know what to do to fix it. All I really want to change is a couple of things, and based on others' comments, it shouldn't be difficult once I get those specific functions to pull up, but that's where I'm having trouble.

I've tried to read through the TIPS thread, but there is so much information in there that it makes things more confusing.

A rom file or tune is comprised of data tables and processor instructions.

to make any sense of it you need a definition file which is an index into the rom tables.

Roms and definitions must match else its bricked ecu for you.

when you open romraider you need to tell romraider where the definition file is located on your hard drive once you have set that then you will be able to open a rom.

Im not being nasty but if you have no understanding of what your doing its quite possible you can brick your ecu

to wtite a completete step by step for this stuff would take days

see also the romraider tips link

Steve,

I didn't take your comments as nasty at all. I agree 100% that I don't want I do anything that I will regret. The frustrating part about this for me is that other people are having no trouble with it, and I can't even get anything to pull up. I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong, just having trouble finding what that is. I appreciate your help.

Being a stupid Marine, one of the things I find insanely frustrating about the www is that it has destroyed the desire for people to write user manuals. "Did you watch the Youtube video" or "check the forum" is not user support. I talked about writing a stone-simple user guide for idiots like me some time ago, but never did. Maybe I should.

Anyway, what Cal ID/ROM is stock on your car? Need that first....

ETA: Steve's links are simple as well. All the info you need is in there. The ROMRaider setup and configuration is not complicated at all. Keep in mind that the reward for making a mistake of almost any sort with ROMRaider setup is a hard-bricked ECU.

HELP!

I got the OFT because it sounded like it would be easy enough even for me, but I'm getting very frustrated.

I've gone from knowing nothing about tuning to customizing my own tunes in less than a year. In that respect the OFT is easier to learn how to use than other options, the software however is designed to be used on many different types of vehicles, so it can't be made easy to use. The problem you have is you want to change the launch control options. This is where you got bogged down. The FFS and LC options aren't always available in the definition file. Depending on what CAL ID and definition file you have, the definitions for those tables might have to be added to your definition file in order to see the tables in Romraider and be able to edit them. You aren't getting anywhere in RomRaider yet because you haven't loaded any definition files yet in RomRaider's definition manager. Without having the matching definition file in RomRaider's definition manager, any attempts to open your tune in RomRaider will fail.
1. Find out what your CAL ID is by looking it up in the Open Flash Manager software.
2. Use RomRaider's definition manager, it's in the top menu's, to add the matching xml file from the folder, v2.06 XMLs, in the v2.06 OTS download from OpenFlash. The xml file with the same CAL ID is the definition file you need to open and change your tune in RomRaider.
3. If you're lucky, you'll be able to see and edit the tables for LC and FFS. If not, appeal to someone on this forum to add those to your xml file for you.

Okay, finally had some time off today to look at this. The #2 in the last reply from KoolBRZ got me wondering which maps I need to be downloading from the OFT site. I have the options of v1.59 or v2.067 tunes. How do I know which ones I need?

Danklvr 07-17-2015 07:15 PM

v2.067 is the latest tunes, v1.59 is less recent. Both make good power, depending on mods / stage..
Id say run the newest tune file- v2.067 and see how you like it. you can always load both versions on your OFT, run one for a while, then flash the other tune and run that one..

ksconekiller 07-18-2015 12:17 AM

I have fully figured out how to add and delete OTS tunes, but I still haven't been able to use RomRaider to edit anything. I see all these threads talking about questions about what to change, which screen it is, etc. I can't even get to this point. I think I have the definition XML file loaded into RomRaider, but now what? Where do I insert the downloaded tune that I want to edit?

once you have xml loaded then go to File, Open then point it to the .bin or .hex tune file with the same calid as the xml you loaded.

jist take your time and understan what your doing before editing and flashing.

check everything twice :-)

Thanks, Steve. You've been a huge help with this!
