Drag Racing last week

I just figured I would throw this pic here, since it was a good photo of the fr-s in action! I was in the black one:

What times did you get? And nice pic!

bakerr6 06-19-2012 11:09 AM

thanks best I got was a 15.6, but I'm 215 lbs. I may take the jack and spare tire out, along with the back seats and see if I can get down to the low 15s. My overall goal is low 13s/high 12s after building it up, as long as the overall driving experience is not sacrificed

btw, do you know if that front end in your avatar is available yet?

I believe this car can hit 13s N/A. Only way I see 12s happening is forced induction with a built motor. I don't think a bolt-on kit will hit 12s without risk of blowing it up.

Edge water is a shit track but 15.6 is kinda slow. My stock 02 spec v ran 15.3 there. You shouldn't have to pull any weight out to be faster you just need practice. What was your 60 foot? The best I was able to pull was a 1.9. Your probably just not getting a good launch.

GenkiElite 06-23-2012 11:04 PM

Btw...auto or manual?

bimmerboy 06-23-2012 11:23 PM

forget the ET, what MPH were you trapping at?

GenkiElite 06-23-2012 11:31 PM

Can't remember. 90, 95? That was back in 03 lol. All I remember was my et and 60'.

Max Schnell 06-23-2012 11:51 PM

Bakerr6 trapped at 92 mph. Given the trap speed he should be running closer to a 14.9 than a 15.6. I never saw the slip but off-hand I would estimate a 2.3-2.4 60' based upon the time ran and comparing it to other FRS 1/4mi slips that ran the same mph at 14.9.

It's not my experience, or even the track for that matter. You have to remember for TNL, they only prep the back half, so I can't get a decent launch on these crappy tires. Also, the guy that was running next to me ran a 15.4, but was a good 50+ lbs. lighter than me

I can try to pull out the slips again, but I'm sure it was around a 2.3-2.6. I was sorely disappointed. I'm working on getting a set of radials for the rear, to see if I can get a decent launch. I'm sure with jsut these I can get into the 14s easily.

I've had plenty of experience drag racing btw, getting my 2010 into the low 12s and running my buddy's vette and posting the top time posted in that car still to this day, with a 10.425 with a procharger (if I remember correctly)

Please don't take it wrong, I am in no way saying it was skill related issues. Traction is always key in the beginning of a 1/4mi run. Track prep at the start is also very influential to the times you can get.

Drag radials on some superlight 15 inch drag rims would go a long way to improve times. My only concern would be how much shock this car can take to the drivetrain before it spills differential guts or break shafts at the line. Like my M3 this car is not designed with drag racing in mind so certain parts may not be reinforced enough for the shock if the tires dead hook. May have to let the clutch soak up the shock.

I bracket race all the time so I am pretty familiar with drag racing but with less of a focus on ultimate times.
