Detailing my brand new FRS
 

Hello guys,


I just purchased a brand new 2015 FRS in the halo/pearl color.
I want to keep my car cleaned and maintained, I upgraded from a 1995 honda civic. LOL
Anyways, what are some brand recommendations for washing, clay barring, and waxing my car? and what frequency?

I use Optimum No Rinse Wash, Meguiar's Ultimate Wax, and Meguiar's Clay. I also like Griot's Garage Speed Shine, and I've also had good luck with Meguiar's Black Wax as an all-in-one cleaner wax. Yes, I use their Black Wax on white cars. For serious polishing and finishing, I see a detailer.

I wash my car once a week when the weather allows for it. I'll do a good wax every couple of months after claying, and I'll use a spray wax in between serious waxings after a quick wash.

It's probably a little excessive, but I park outside year round, so I'm pretty anal about it. I think white's a good color for a car that lives outside, just as long as you keep the bird crap and bugs from cooking into the clear coat.

EDIT: Also, don't let anyone tell you otherwise; you can and should totally clay a new car and wax/seal it.

im a BIG fan of Sonax Polymer Net Shield, spray on, wipe off, protection for months! last time i applied this to my car was Feb ish i want to say, water still just beads up and falls off right away

I like meguiers products.

Medium cut cleaner (if not very oxidized use clay bar)

Then Ultimate polish

then the hi tech wax.

I use an orbital polisher for all 3 steps with a separate pad for each step. I use a Harbor freight Polisher and I got dimpled pads, the foam pads from Harbor Freight are awful. You can order pads from the ChemicalGuys on Amazon. Also get 3 different colored microfiber towels for removal of product on each step. You don't want to use the cutting compound removal towel for polish and wax removal, that would be bad. ALWAY do this on cool metal and NOT in direct sunlight.

Never clay unless you plan on polishing after. Washing correctly in less frequency will give your clear coat a longer life span of being swirl free. I wash once every 2-3 weeks or twice a month. Avoid any drive through car washes. Keep your car waxed in between, I personally use spray wax.

Here are the links to basic products that I would suggest to maintain the paint. I recommend purchasing them on sites that have frequent sales, usually around 15% off.

The two videos will teach you the traditional washing method, the other is for a waterless wash system. Again, the point of these techniques is to cause less chance of dragging any debris or particles across your paint. Oh, and go get a pressure washer from Costco, there's a decent one for around $200. Trust me on this one.

You use compound to polish?

I would recommend almost all the auto gylm products. Their HD wax is very very good! They also have "aqua" wax and it works like a spray wax in between waxes. I was very impressed with it. On my friends car that we stripped the wax off we applied it to half the hood and sprayed it with water it was amazing how well it worked for how little time it took. It only lasted a few washes though but if you use it every wash in between waxes I doubt you will ever have uv fading issues. Just my two cents on waxing options.

Get Optimum Opticoat Pro applied by a authorized dealer/detail shop.
Best $395.00 I spent on my car.
Then just use Optimum spray wax or Optimum Instant Detailer.

I am a big fan of Adam's premium car care stuff. Their detail spray, car shampoo, glass cleaner, and all purpose spray is amazing. I love the way my car looks after using Adam's products with the 2 bucket method, good technique, and some solid microfibers. When drying I use their detail spray for a streakfree finish and extra shine.
I have tried chemical guy's car wash...it isn't bad and its cheaper but I feel like it doesn't scud up enough and provide the same level of lubrication as Adam's

Clay bar...I have used blue grade clay from chemical guy's, Adam's, meguiars' and honestly I don't think there is a difference. I also believe that up until just a few years ago clay bar was all manufactured by one source...You can also use Adam's detail spray as clay lube.

Compound and polishes hmm I recently tried menzerna's intensive polish, it is supposed to be a one-step polish with some compounding power but when I used it with a white hex-logic pad (fine cutting pad) it didn't get rid of even minor swirls after 2 passes.
I then tried menzerna's 1200 super intensive polish with an orange hex logic pad(medium cut) and it did the job with 2 passes and the finish was pretty nice too even without another white pad pass.
I would recommend menzerna's or meguier's for compound and polishes

their eagle edgeless microfiber towels are my favorite out of every other microfiber that is in my closest.

Someone else mentioned Sonax's Polymer Net Shield, as a sealant it is amazing. It is much quicker than other ones where you have to wait 20 minutes or so, but it is still good for 6 months. Use it and do the water drop test, it is a thing of wonders.
Sonax's wheel cleaners are also pretty solid.

Weekly Meguiar quik wax and Meguiar's ultimate car wash plus clay three times a year. Will keep your car paint smooth!

Get a sealant now that it's new and a good wax. Rest is maintain.

I drive it through a rainstorm fast enough to wash the gunk off. Then clean off the gunk that gets caught in the back of the car. BOOM! done.
