HOW MUCH PER WHEEL!?!? LOVING THIS

DAEMANO 07-03-2015 06:15 PM

@DarkestBuddah

I was waiting for someone to do this with 720 Forms. They're a great value to mod on (much like our cars). Gorgeous work man. Question, are those the stock tires? If so, they seem to fit pretty well stretched on those 9" wheels.

DarkestBuddha 07-03-2015 06:25 PM

the wheels were done by rjcoating, decent work but long wait
i think his price is $850 for the liquid coats now for a set

@DAEMANO
the tires are michelen pilot super sports 245/40

Vroomin86 07-03-2015 07:16 PM

looks great !

$850 just for the coating or includes wheels?

hmong337 07-03-2015 07:45 PM

Looks great. I hate the black these come in.

DarkestBuddha 07-03-2015 08:29 PM

@Vroomin86
just for coating (strip, blast, high polish, coat)

holy fuck, I guess it really is much more expensive over on the west coast. I can have a full set of wheels powdercoated for $300 and $500 for anything fancy, this includes stripping any current color/finish... nonetheless great job on color and wheel choice :thumbup:

Right? The thing keeping me from getting a set is the fact that they only offer them in black with the machined out bits still silver

ajaxthebetter 07-03-2015 09:53 PM

Damn you! I thought maybe I'd be one of the first to do this. If only they'd arrived by last Friday when I they were supposed to and not delayed.

Mine are 17x8 and I am searching for a shop to do them in a color not dissimilar from Volk Matte Blue Gunmetal.

Yours look amazing!

I'm wondering if I should leave the U beam spokes machined or just go full blue. My car is silver, so leaving them machined might be nice.

Once again. Damn. Looks incredible.

ApolloSki 07-06-2015 06:54 PM

Finally @DarkestBuddha

DarkestBuddha 07-06-2015 11:42 PM

@ApolloSki
haha yes, getting these wheels on my car was a long journey full of tiresome tribulations and delays.
BUT ITS ON NOW!
and the ride feels goooooood

@ajaxthebetter
if you can get them to mask to spokes, it might look really badass with the silver there.
i always love me some blue

DuMa 07-07-2015 12:03 AM

its a super unique color. i like it but i think the lugs could be a different color. to break up all that gold. just for more contrast.

ajaxthebetter 07-07-2015 12:28 AM

Yeah. Its just so hard to envision what it may look like with silver u beams. I think I'll just go for it. Silver lugs. Silver U Beams. Silver valve stems. Just hope it's not too much silver.

Your picture has given me confidence to press forward with Powder. Though, I will say, it is annoying that shops are not responding. So many enquiries, so few responses.

DarkestBuddha 07-07-2015 12:55 AM

the guy i got this done from called it "liquid coating" that is done over a high polish.
dont know the specifics other then that
here is a wip of the wheels after the polish

ryoma 07-07-2015 02:43 AM

what color is it called? it looks really glossy for a normal gold

WanFeiLong 07-10-2015 12:52 AM

Did you get hubcentric rings or are they not necessary?

DAEMANO 07-10-2015 01:24 AM

Looks like Chrome powder coat.

holy fawk that gold finish is amazing though.
never knew these were such a well designed wheels..the stock finish def killed it for me personally, now - one of my favorite with that finish..

KevinK121 07-16-2015 02:40 PM

Looks good. Making me rethink 235/45 on my 17x9 rpf1s though lol

Jolt182 07-17-2015 04:55 AM

Absolutely beautiful! And I thought my rims looked good. Loving that color!!

Exactly the same here.

Cole 02-28-2016 10:23 PM

Just got my set on Friday. Still trying to figure out what tires to go with. Did a test fit and I may have to take out the camber bolts and just go with the top hats I have.

Cole 03-05-2016 09:34 AM

Got tires mounted (245/40 RE71R) and then bolted the wheels up and rolled it outside to get some pictures. Way too excited for the snow to be gone!

I got my 17x8's about 8 months ago. Had them off for winter. Completely change the look of the car. Put them on two weeks ago and at my first stop someone commented on the car. The concavity on your 9's is boss haha.

Originally, I had 17x8's on order, but the 9 just looks so much better, so I called the shop up and had them change it. Now I get to play the waiting game :(

What size tire are you running?I'm thinking of getting 17x8's.

ajaxthebetter 03-05-2016 06:04 PM

235/40 on stock struts/RCE yellow springs. Drives nice.

DarkestBuddha 03-06-2016 01:27 AM

They (720Form, not Flow Form) don't sell direct. You need to go through a vendor.

Just need to find someone who deals with DAI. Why expect the manufacturer to spoon feed you?

DarkestBuddha 03-07-2016 01:50 PM

i had to buy my wheels through a distributor in canada, then shipped to california.

Cole your wheels look awesome! What type of driving are you going to be doing on your RE-71R's? How much will you drive them on the street? I was thinking about getting a set, I only drive my FR-S on the weekend and I want to do a few autox events this summer.

Does it look like you'd be able to run 255/40-17's? What camber specs are you at? Do you think there's clearance for STI brembo calipers? what vendor did u go through to get your wheels and how long did you have to wait? I was thinking about seeing if I could get them through 1010tires.com but maybe there's a forum sponsor that would be better to buy from?

Thanks for the info

Most of my driving is going to be street. I'll be doing a couple autox events throughout the year. So, probably 95% street, 5% autox.

I could run 255/40's probably, but there might be rubbing issues. Right now, I'm at -2.5F and -2R for camber. I have a slight rub in the front (tire on spring) so I ordered some 3mm spacers to fix that. If they end up rubbing on the fender after spacers, I'll dial some camber out, and run -2F and -1.5R.

I've heard that these will clear the STi Brembo's, but don't have first hand experience.

Bought the wheels through a local shop who only carries DAI wheels. I waited almost 2 months for them to come in. 1010Tires is a good option if tney have them in stock. I don't think many vendors carry these in the US, might be forced to order from a Canadian shop.

Not exactly a bad thing considering the state of our dollar

quick question on your wheels

getting real close to solidifying my choice to go with the gtf1's at 9" wide which is exactly what you did but on a hankook ventus v12 evo2 k120 set of tires. was tempted to push to 255/40 and am currently at stock height. but with the slight rub issue you are having at 245/40 i might just stick with your size.

my big question is how much is your ride dropped? i am only ever looking to go to an eibach lowering springs which varies from .8" to 1" and then some SPC camber bolts up front and SPC LCA's for the back.

my car is a daily driver even through winter so not looking to slam it, just combat the 5mm or so of baja lift and close a little wheel gap.

let me know if i am a little loonie for trying to go to 255/40 with stock coils.
