3M paint protection

Hey guys, I recently bought my new frs and i was thinking of applying the 3M paint protection to my hood, bumper, fenders and mirrors.
Has anyone here done it to their frs, and if so how noticeable is it overtime? My car is ultramarine and I do a lot of highway driving.

Also, what are some shops around the GTA that do good 3M installs without breaking the bank?

Thanks in advance

I did my whole car lol!!! I am a huge 3M fan. The paint on these cars seem to chip really easy so I would recommend it. Make sure you get them to wrap in around the edge of the hood too! and if you want to go all out get the A pillers and roof line done as well.

As far as over time you still get a few spots (like 2 or 3) where rocks have cut through the 3M but thats mainly lower on the bumper and under the front lip. I daily drive mine even in winter and I seems to hold up really well. One thing you have to worry about (depending on the brand) is swirl marks as you can not polish them out.

Would I do it agian, YES! it cost a hell of a lot to do it but my car looks brand new and is nearly 2 years old now.

@Marat I did the whole front bumper and top 1/3 of the hood

It is not really noticeable unless you're up close. Don't know how anal you are about the difference in glare, shine, etc.

The best part is that after driving 60,000 km with it on, I know I can scrub the bumper and rid it of all that disgusting bug guts we get without harming the paint.

I ended up going big and also got Opticoat on top of the 3M. Let me know if you're interested in that whole shebang and I can tell you more about the place and prices

Thanks for the replies guys!
I plan on winter driving too. I only had the car for 2 weeks and I already have a few rock chips on my front bumper.
Drewbot, if you can tell me some good places and their prices, that would be great!

Also I believe @chermo12 got the big package from AAF?

^ It was done very nicely too, couldn't even find where the wrap started, they folded in and behind. Mine was outsourced to Auto-links, did only 1/4 hood, mirrors, 1/4 fenders, it was okay.. compared to @chermo12 definitely better at AAF

Yea if you dont like the lines get the full hood/full fenders/bumper (wrap around hood cuz trust me I know people who didnt ask for the and now have chips in that 5-10mm gap between the hood edge and where the 3M starts.) and it is very hard to tell you even have 3M on at all.

One lesson learned is that most of my chips and nicks on the car are actually on the roof. Car is so low it always hits it

Drewbot thats true, my roof does have some scratches on it from rocks and whatnot.
Thanks for the price list. Even though it's a bit out of my budget it will probably be worth it in the long run, considering I drive about 100km a day and winter drive as well.

If you're ever in the GTA give me a shout and you can see what it looks like after 2 years installed, winter driven, washed, etc

Marat 07-03-2015 03:40 PM

Yeah that would be great, thanks!
