FR-S fastest in 1st practice at Road America PWC race.

Tony Rivera was the fastest TCA car in the first practice session for this weekend's Road America Pirelli World Challenge races. Tony was the points leader after the first three rounds but missed the Canadian races which cost him the points lead. Qualifying for the Touring Car classes will start at 3:45PM Central time today. The race schedule is as follows:

Schedule for TC-TCA-TCB
Saturday 8:40 AM CT
Sunday 8:10 AM CT and 4:15 PM CT

Live streaming of the races at: http://www.world-challengetv.com/

By the way, you can also watch the GT, GTA, GTS and GTC races live. The PWC puts on the best production class GT racing in NA (and arguably the world). The cars entered in these classes are a dream list of every sports car enthusiast and they race wheel to wheel in 50 minute sprint races. Good Stuff!

Bear in mind the motors on the TCA cars are almost stock then certified and sealed. Here are the TCA rules:

Tony qualified 1st in TCA with a 2:34:452! I'm surprised a little--thought the FR-S would not do well on this "horsepower course". Tomorrow weather is good but may get some rain Sunday, which will make things difficult...

FR-S qualifies on the pole for the TCA class with a 2:34.452 lap. Followed by RX-8, Kia Forte Koup, RX-8 and BMW Z4 as the top five qualifiers in class.

Edit: Ya beat me....LOL.

First race on now.

Edit: FR-S takes first place in TCA in dominant fashion. Fastest lap 2.5 seconds faster than everyone else in class. Announcers are saying that car will likely have a BOP (weight added) to slow it down.

After race there was a nice interview with Rivera. He said that the RX8 and the Z4 were faster in a straight line but that he could carry much higher cornering speeds. He got passed at the start of the race but tucked into line and got around both of the cars that passed him in subsequent corners.

Any idea what the current weight is? No doubt they will get weight with a win like that.

Not sure if I remember right but it seems to me the minimum weight last year was 2800LBs. His fast race lap was in the 2:33 range which puts him on pole for tomorrow's first race.

The announcers also spilled the beans on why he missed the Canadian rounds. He was busy getting married.

Good for him.

Is Tiburon Motorsports Rivera's new shop, or does he have a new sponsor?

Sponsor, I think. I believe Tiburon is a motorcycle sales-rental business in CA.

I missed today's races. Celebrating my mom's 60th bday in extravagant fashion :)

Hopefully I can get a chance to watch tomorrow's races.

I knew he would do well at Road America! Thanks for keeping me updated and in the loop guys.

Tony Rivera FTW!!!!

Next race starts in 50 min!

Rampage 06-28-2015 09:58 AM

They moved Tony back to last in class at the start. I guess they want to give everyone else a chance against the FR-S.

EDIT: There is something you never hear on this forum. The announcers just said "Wicked fast Scion FR-S". Remember this is a stock motor class!

EDIT2: FR-S wins. Tony went from last in class to first in class. Moved from 5th in the points to 3rd. With another win this afternoon he will be within striking distance of the points lead but his performance this week is sure to have won him a BOP adjustment for the Mid-Ohio rounds. I would expect the car will gain about 75lbs of weight added to his minimum before those races.

The announcers kept talking about oil smoke and the car blowing up but I am pretty sure that Tony had locked up the rear brakes to avoid hitting a TCB car in a corner and that tire smoke is what they mistook for oil smoke.

Next race later this afternoon 4:15 PM CT.
