Barum, BFGoodrich, Continental
 

I know Barum is a cheap tire, but so are the OEM tires. I don't track my car but i do drive the hell out of it. I love the fact that it looses traction when i go around a corner and hammer the gas, to a point. Now that they are becoming harder and have almost 25k miles on them they are loosing too much traction and i want to get some fresh rubber. I wonder if the Barums at their low price of 60 bucks a tire would be ok or should i go with the BFGoodrich g-Force Sport COMP-2 or Continental ExtremeContact DW. Would they stick so hard that I would loose the fun factor basically?

Could be wrong, but it doesn't seem that Barum offers a true high performance tire. Their descriptions talk o econony and wear rate, not really performance.

Federal tires, (SS 595?) I believe are kind of drifters tires and come at a cheap price. They also make an even higher performance tire which may still fall within a more limited budget.

The other tires you listed are great, no doubt.

i honestly don't care about budget, it's the fun factor i don't want to loose. I like federal tires, i will have to check my local shop and see if they carry them.

I just ordered some on ebay the other day for 380 or so to fit my new wheels for the summer. 235/40/17. Should have then mounted next week. If you haven't committed to anything by then, I can let you know how they feel.

Kind of in your boat. Enjoy driving the car but I've tracked it once and really don't plan on doing much of that. Came to the realization that 99% of the time I'll be dding the car so don't want to go crazy on tires with some super low treadwear. I've heard these federals are decent but not amazing on grip which should be fun for just having fun

Good other options for good performance summer tires that don't break the bank are the Dunlop DZ102/101. I was looking at a set in similar sizes would be around 5-600 bucks apparently they are solid tires.

Also back to federal, if you don't mind tires wearing out quickly people seem to like the 595 rs-r

The optimistic side of me hopes they will be a steal. During my studies, and though this is probably true for most any tire, I read that the Federals really begin to show their limitations with heavier vehicles, while with lighter vehicles they go just fine.

I think the RSRs have like 6mm tread depth, though Im sure they are a blast.

From what I've gathered the 595s also run a bit wide, so our 235 will be closer to 245. Should be an improvement over stock.

The Federals were very appealing to me until I saw the weights...they're one of the heavier tires in a given size.

Highly recommend the Conti DWs as well!

The DWs, funnily enough, are usually the lightest in a given size. I've run them, and they're a great street tire that can take the occasional autocross as well. Phenomenal in the wet, too.

Sorry, but the factory tires are neither cheap in price nor in quality.

My wife's new Audi has them, and it sticks to the road like glue

Got the Barums, they are defiantly stickier than stock but not by much. Fun factor retained and out the door was 334.
