Beginner's Guide to Mods and Their Purpose?

Hello,

Complete n00b thread. I know you can learn a lot on specific mods by reading through the forums, but can anyone point me to a good beginner guide or share in this thread an overview of:

1. the types of mods people do
2. the purpose behind them, and
3. a cost range specific to the twins?

If anything the list would be a good place from which people new to modifying can use to know what to Google to get to different goals w/ their cars.

Thank you!

Two simple steps to answer every question you have about mods:

1) What is the part you are considering?
2) What about that OEM part is lacking (looks, performance, feel, etc)?

Once you've answered the two questions you will know what the purpose is of mods. Every single non-OEM mod on this car addresses one or more attributes that is lacking with a "stock" car.

Don't overthink it and don't read too much without understanding where the starting point is.

This book is a little dated, but it gave me my education early on. It helps you understand the purpose of most every popular modification and how they all work together to create a comprehensive car build for whatever your tastes may be (warning, includes spinner rim references):

Ya I lived, car totaled on the side mountain & we are lucky we didn't flip cuz the mountain was sloped just right & some giant rock catched us.
