SoCal Canyon Run Thread

Thought it would be a good thread to have for us. Just post here if anyone is planning for a nice drive.

Post When/Where/Route maybe?

It can be spontaneous or planned one. All fine.

Check out this website. It lists out all the nice one.

I usually do a run once every two weeks. It's almost always more than 100 miles in the canyon too. Usually up in Angeles Crest Highway, sometimes Malibu canyons like Piuma/Latigo/Tuna.

I only track from September to May.. :D

JEDI 06-22-2015 06:04 PM

Living off of Angeles Crest Highway in Wrightwood HWY-2 makes it a convenient drive to Flintridge (210 and 2 East) for me. I'm down for that drive on Sat or Sun anytime. During the week I can get to Flintridge by 9pm and cruise it (East) home at night. I always see Miata's, BRZ's, and a few Euro's at night on the turn outs during the week after 9pm. The weekends there are lots of bikes, and you are bound to see a CHP as well. I will post a pic if needed.

Like I said, if you follow us to the track and if there is interest...spontaneity happens amongst the 86CUP people too you know...

I usually go weekday nights or very early moring on Sunday. Both are pretty good in terms of general traffic and cops.

ryoma 06-22-2015 08:15 PM

if someone organizes a run a few weeks in advance with at least a few people going, I'm down. I live about 2 hours away from the LA area so I need to know in advance lol

or you guys can come down to me and go through highway 74 to Idyllwild. that's the only local canyon to me

I'm a part of this local canyon run group called Socal Lateral G. You can facebook search it. We do runs every week.

I personally do one run every two weeks, usually on Sunday morning at 7am. Usually end up doing between 100-150miles. Takes around 3-4 hours.

Did you ever PM me your number?

sillierabbit 06-22-2015 08:49 PM

I just did Lockwood Valley Rd onto part of Highway 33 on Saturday. It's pretty awesome. But it's near Santa Barbara and will take a whole tank for round trip.

http://www.lateralg.org/roads/sbarbara/2.htm

Highway 33 is really nice when going doing and watching the sunset.

FRS Johnny 06-22-2015 09:12 PM

Always down for a cruise if I can make it. Pm me if you guys are going! I'm on the so cal later g page too. I have a small group of friends that go to canyons a lot too.

night time is perfect since it'll start cooling down and gives me plenty of time to get out there. though, don't expect any on-the-limit driving from me at night time since I want to make it back in one piece haha

broodchaos 06-24-2015 05:12 PM

I hit up gmr (glendora mountain rd) last sat, turn out to be a good night, no cops...went around midnight and at the very top were many racers out there chilling at the fork, ended up taking the rd towarda mt baldy...its a 2 way lane with no center line, imagine all the lines you can take lol

_gt86_user 06-24-2015 05:48 PM

I usually hit up N. Fork Rd to E. Ford Rd onto GMR, Im usually up there with a WRX wagon and Evo 8 usually 3-4 times a week any time of the day from early morning to midnight leading into the morning usually just depends when we have to work but we all are locals and live close so its super convenient for us. If you guys see a Halo white FRS on gold RPF1's come and say hi!

_gt86_user 06-24-2015 08:02 PM

Also a regular at the Crest as well just FYI.

JS + BRZ 06-24-2015 08:04 PM

Do you have a fb?

JS + BRZ 06-24-2015 08:04 PM

And are you guys interested in making a pretty big cruise day? Just FRS/BRZ?

I'm down for that let me know when and sorry I don't have a FB..or any social media really anymore I try to check back here as often as I can since I don't really know anyone with a twin haha but if you guys set something in down for sure.

JS + BRZ 06-24-2015 08:15 PM

Cool. I'll try to set something up for next month. It'll be cool to get 15-20 FRS/BRZs to gather up and drive up to ACH.

mixxxx 06-24-2015 09:19 PM

Every Sunday - Supercar Sunday in the morning (830AM) drive Malibu canyons right after (930AM).

Usually do Stunt - Piuma - Cold Canyon - Mulholland - Latigo then Malibu beaches ;) I live in Woodland Hills so those canyons are a stones throw away from me.

ACH is also a lot of fun and faster average speed than Malibu

FRS Johnny 07-01-2015 07:46 PM

Going to gmr with a few friends late tonight. PM me if interested

What's gmr, I'd be down for some canyon running. I don't know any back roads in SoCal yet 😁

If you've never been to GMR I'd suggest you take it easy especially if it's a busy night with lots of cars going up and down, and I don't mean the regular drivers either people like us mainly trying to drive aggressively or somewhat.

JS + BRZ 07-01-2015 10:15 PM

I heard there's a ghost up in GMR.

_gt86_user 07-01-2015 10:19 PM

So the legends are true. Lol

OzzyGT86 07-01-2015 10:19 PM

Should try TURNBULL in Whittier. 5-10 min drive up but crazy turns.. Crazier than the Malibu canyons

95BRZ 07-01-2015 10:20 PM

SoCal Canyon Run Thread

JS + BRZ 07-01-2015 10:25 PM

FRS Johnny 07-02-2015 12:28 AM
