I've seen a few people go into the wall exiting the last turn onto the long straight, but speeds in that corner aren't fast enough to get hurt at all. A RHD WRX did end up on it's roof a few years ago though.

Very cool. What's the setup of your drone and camera?

BatStig 06-22-2015 01:07 PM

That was pretty neat!

I was just there at the end of May. Looks like they've done some painting & paving.

DJI Phantom 3 Pro, built in 4k camera.

I need more practice following the proper line from above, hoping to get all the tracks I visit this year (GP track will be the hardest).

@wparsons woah, that's a pretty large dollar commitment!

he likes his whirring toys... :)

great capture, will,

why no cars though, or was that the requirement (all that bullshit about commercial licensing)

I need to cut out the expensive hobbies, anyone have suggestions for REALLY cheap ones to eat up my time?? :D

I consider this an investment though, looking at getting into filming for $$$ once I can get the legal side straightened out.

CASC had a ban on all UAV's at their events (and events of sanctioned clubs) last year, I need to work with them to see if something can be figured out to allow them within specific guidelines.

A few competitors said they would gladly sign an additional waiver stating that if the quad fell and they hit it they waive all rights, etc.

I want to get footage of all the tracks I'm at this year (GP track could be tricky without a chase car, nothing close to line of sight around the whole thing), and try to work towards getting footage of cars during actual lapping (not after dark searching for an RFID tag that blew off in the rain like the S2000 was).

I'm going to see if maybe I can get clearance to get footage of alligator lapping on the 12th, Joe likes flying things too so he'll help push for it :D

Sorry Will, there's no such thing as cheap and fun hobbies for us.....

Photography/videography is probably even worse than a mild OTA/AutoX budget considering how fast technology moves, you always want to have the newest and nicest things :D

A buddy of mine went to school for that kind of stuff and because of the video files, he's now built a 24TB RAID getup storing his entire project :iono:

Between photography (lenses aren't cheap!), cars, skiing (race skis aren't cheap!), RC planes/helis/quadcopters, mountain biking, etc I need two full careers :D

n0thing 06-22-2015 10:05 PM

Please do one for Shannonville full track and DDT. If you can record a vehicle tracking (with correct lines of course) it'll greatly help novice drivers like me.

wparsons 06-22-2015 10:12 PM

DDT I'll hopefully get July 12th. The quad isn't nearly fast enough to chase a car at speed, but if I can convince someone to drive a REALLY slow lap (~55km/h max) I might be able to get chase footage.

SMP should be doable, I'll be there in August.

Biggest challenge will be the GP track. I would have to be in a car chasing it (or it chasing the car) to get range past all the trees in the infield.
