Stock Clutch

Quick and dirty question:

What is the stock clutch rated for power wise? At what level should I begin to worry? Aiming for 260 - 270 whp.

Thats about when the clutch will slip. Around 210-220 wtq.

Thats what I thought!

Clutch kit is added to the build list then.

I've been look around and researching this. Everyone seems to like the ACT kit. Price is great, reviews are great, but I don't want a light weight flywheel. I'll be putting a turbo on in a few weeks, so I'd like to keep that mass up (already have a LW driveshaft), and I hate flywheel chatter.

Any recommendations on a good clutch kit that uses stock flywheel and can hold some torque?

It can definitely handle more than that. It shouldn't be a concern until the 300whp mark, which I believe would be about 240-250wtq. There are plenty of turbos and supers made to do well with the stock clutch, and they are definitely pushing more than 260whp.

It might be a concern if you are running crazy grippy and wide tires, but not with stock equivalents.

Not wide. 225 wide. So 10 over stock. I still have stock tires on now, but tires are on my list as well. Nothing crazy, but better than stock. I plan on having a bit of fun with it, so I was thinking that It may be something to do now anyway, since more power is a few clicks away. Peace of mind n all that.

I found 2 that seem interesting:

Competition stage 3. 12.8 lb fly wheel. Heaviest LW flywheel I could find.
Spec stage 3+ Never heard of them. Not sure I trust.

Here in Aus Exedy do heavy duty clutches that will bolt to the stock flywheel. Can you not get the same kits there?

(screen grab for proof and part numbers)

Yeah there is that one. I dont know how i like the idea of a 3 puck clutch. Just seems....unreliable? I'd prefer full surface.

I guess a flywheel wouldn't be terrible if the chatter was non-existent.

Anyone have any sound clips of Flywheel/driveline chatter?

Decided on Competition Stage 3 with 12.8 lb flywheel. We'll see how it does.

I ran a spec clutch in my old supercharged mustang. They were pretty well known in the s197 community. The 3+ had a light pedal feel as well and was really grabby. Not sure how that translates in the zn6.

I just installed the Comp Stage 3 segmented clutch and a SS clutch line.

Pedal feel is awesome now. Perfectly feel when the clutch releases/engages. The clutch is super grabby when cold. I am still struggling with it a little. When its warmed up a bit more its much more manageable but still just as strong. A little chatter under low RPM high load, but I also installed the DSS 1 piece drive shaft, and the Megan racing trans mount. Little bit of vibration. Loving it so far. Highly recommended.
