Overspray from work place all over car
 

My employer was spray painting a pressure vessel with primer and paint this week. Downwind, the vehicles that were in the vicinity were affected by small spots of paint/primer that look like pollen. My car is covered with them...bodywork, wheels, trim, rubber seals...everything. I took it to a local bodyshop that I trust and they are predicting a huge amount of man hours required to restore the car. If it's primer they are pessimistic.


Feeling really down right now...I take so much care of my vehicle and I feel like it has been ruined.


Anyone else had this issue in the past and corrected it? Can a good detailer take care of this or is a bodyshop better?

Clay bar should do the trick. Lots of elbow grease but cheaper than a bodyshop.

Clay bar, you can also use some light compound and a DA for a less labor intensive option

have your employer pay for the car to be fixed???

same exact thing actually happened to someone on the forums awhile back last year. he was able to get it restored back to new again. not sure what the thread was called, but he had either a black or asphalt twin and it had like gold/yellow overspray everywhere.

I am going to get it taken care of at a local bodyshop that I trust. The local detailer that handled some of the cars did a really bad job. Yes, the employer has authorized $350, but it could end up being more.

Also, there was a guy near Portland, Oregon, who is a wizard with detailing and paint jobs, but I cannot find his name anywhere, but he got a good reputation on this forum.

Do you have pictures? Anything on top of the clear coat should be able to be removed with compound, I imagine some sort of solvent will be used for the plastic trim.

Might sound stupid, but have you tried WD40 and a soft cloth?

Sorry, unable to post the photos, the selector just keeps going round in circles. Just imagine a car covered in pollen...that's what it looks like. Difficult to see it under artificial lighting, but it looks terrible in bright sunlight.

Happened to my car. Clay bar'd it until my arms fell off. It's super effective!
