Forced Induction HELP!
First of all, I am a beginner to the tuning and modding world.
History:Okay, not that we got that out of the way, I got a 2013 used scion FR-S about 10 months ago. I am a college student, so i used to drive a slow, bad looking 07 corolla. I decided to sell my corolla and get a 2013 scion FR-S, with the extra money I saved up. Now, i am starting to consider a forced induction method for my car, just for that extra power that i am starting to crave for after the 10 months i had this car.
A list for what the forced induction (turbo or super) NEEDS to have.It NEEDS to be a reliable system (turbo or super), as i am a college student. It NEEDS to be under $6,500, for WHOLE forced induction system (price does not include oil cooler). It NEEDS to have dependability, as i am a college student, i will get drunk and will do lots of crazy things with my car:burnrubber:. It NEEEEEEDS to be carb approved, as many of my family members have a political major, me obeying the laws, and passing the SMOG is a big issue. I wouldnt prefer a forced induction system that will cost $$$ to maintain, and talking about maintenance, i need a system that doesnt need a lab to change the belt; or things of that nature. Also, I would prefer a system that i can google the problem and get an answer asap. I dont want a system that would create me headaches, or systems that would take more than a few hours to fix.
Setups that i am considering:Vortech Supercharger kit with the factory (Vortech) ecutune(COMPLETE KIT). With the Vortech supercharger i will run a oil cooler, the mishimoto oil cooler. My setup number 2: Jackson Racing supercharger, with the factory (JR) ecutune. With the JRSC, i will run the JR oil cooler.
Talking about oil coolers:Is the Mishimoto Oilcooler a really good oil cooler? Is it reliable, and easy to maintain? I am aware that i have to mod the brackets inorder for the radiator to fit, but is that all the modding i have to do with the oil cooler, with the vortech s/c on it? Is the Jackson Racing oilcooler reliable and easy to maintain. I heard that u will need to do barley any mods for the JR oil cooler with the JRSC installed... am i wrong?A very noobish question, will i need to run a ecutune if i install an oilcooler. If so, how would i have the s/c ecutune and the oil cooler tune all in one thing? Do i need a custom tune if i need to run a oil cooler with a s/c??? Also, in general, if i were to run two different ecutunes in one thing, how could i manage that???
These are all the questions i have so far. Please tell me which route would be better for me, JRSC, or the VORTECH S/C. If i have anymore questions i will put it on here asap. I will try to keep u guys active with my decisions :D.
This thread is for everyone that is new to the tuning league, especially for forced induction. Also, all the comments and answers will be respected by me, hate or love :thanks::cheers:
