I found out a little more about this piece. I am kinda ignorant when it comes to parts like this. This replacement piece is actually not at all safe to run on the car I found out after speaking to him. It looks good, weighs alot less, but not at all for daily use.

"The Scion Tuner Challenge build also received my first prototype aluminum bumper beam. These lightweight, race-only parts might even be available in the Speedhunters store in the future." ---- <Scion Tuner Challenge The Build: Part 2> by Keith Charvonia Link: http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/02/...-build-part-2/ . |
Why not just remove it. Safety isn't a concern right?
The idiocy to me is the fact that these kind of things are made. Mods normally improves or add function to a particular part. The crash is purely a safety component. If you are going to reduce its only (real) function, why not just get rid of it. If the objective is to only use it to mount an intercooler, why just make a skinny bar? |

Well, looking at it, it's actually pretty beefy because he does want it to work. The issue is, there's no way he could afford to test it's function in a crash so it's a "race" part. Not to mention the front structure needs the bracing for handling, so making a skinny piece doesn't cut it. |
In race cars, often times there are alternate bumper supports built. Sometimes to help lighten up the car, but often times like we will be doing in our AZP Spec86 Cup car, we will be putting in a bumper support that will not collapse when bump-drafting in the straights with other cars in your class.
