used brz as first car, decent price?
 

I'm currently looking at a 2013 brz limited. It has less than 11,500 on the odometer and was owned by a member of the dealerships service department. It is an automatic. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or bad bad at this time. This would be my first car and my daily driver year round up here in snow country.

The asking price for the car is 22,999. Is this a fair price? I plan on negotiating and gonna try to get it for less than 20. Do you think this is possible? It's a small town Chevy dealer.

Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

check bluebook but the price also goes +/- depends on how much demand in your area

I wouldn't pay 23k for a 26-27k new car. I also wouldn't get an auto in this car, but that's just me. You may be able to talk them down some.

It a fair deal; not a good one, IMO. Low mileage is what you're paying. I paid $23k for a 2014 BRZ limited with a couple thousand more miles than the one you're looking at. It originally sold for almost $30k. So, I think I got a pretty good deal. In your case, I would talk them down to $20k out the door.

congrat on buying your first new car! i dont mean to harsh on young adult + teenage driver but drive responsibly especially with Rear wheel drive. get winter tires or all season at least. stock summer tires are no joke in winter.

I'm gonna see if they'll let me test drive it tomorrow. If I get a chance to head down there. They are about 1000 less than dealer kbb. If I can find a manual in this range, I'd have to learn to drive it.

The automatics in these cars are pretty decent, so you can't really go wrong either way. Unless you just really want a manual; for some people that's a necessity.

The OEM summer tires aren't all that great during the summer; during the winter they're pretty awful. Since you're up in snow country I would very much recommend a second set of wheels with genuine winter (not all-season) tires on them. Or buy a nice set of wheels for summer and use the OEM wheels for winter. Or something. And get good floormats, such as WeatherTech or 3D Maxpider, not random universal winter floormats.

I would definitely be getting snow tires and weathertech mats. I was thinking potentially going the blizzak rout if they make them in the stock size.

I could probably learn to drive stick. The only stick my family has is an 82 jeep scrambler. That's dad's baby and he's not letting me touch it.

You may be able to bargain them down a bit, but maybe not. I looked at buying myself one that was used, since I have a connection with a dealer who will buy at wholesale dealer auction for me. The estimated auction sale prices for 2013 with under 20k miles were 19-20k, as I recall; higher mileage would drop the price a bit, I recall one being $16k/46k miles. Given that the 3-year warranty would be coming up fairly fast on a car of that vintage, and the history of the vehicle would be unknown to me, I decided that the differential wasn't great enough to be worth the gamble, so I bought new.

Around here private party sales appear to be in the 17-19k range for that vintage with 20k miles or less. Those who price higher seem to linger on CraigsList for weeks or months, refreshing the ad every few days...

That price doesn't seem too bad for the mileage. Last year around the same time, I got my '13 with 9k miles for $26k. Sadly I showed up with my old car that was on its last leg and they knew I wasn't going home without the car.. so they didn't budge a dime. I wanted it though.

Around this season the car is at its peak value. My kbb value actually went up $1000 from February. If you can wait you could get it significantly cheaper closer to winter.

I just picked up a CPO 2015 series.blue with 10k miles for $25,499. I was checking out cars.com multiple times a week looking at cars so if you have time being patient could work out to your advantage and you'll find an even better deal.

Pay an extra 2k and thats msrp without including tax and handling fees. Just a little fyi.

I knew the one my wife and I bought had been sitting on the dealer's lot for quite some time. I called them to inquire and told them flat out that I wanted the best deal he could give me and I was paying CASH. The dealer for some reason proceeded to tell me he's had it for 22 days. So, I guess he just wanted to get rid of it. Thing is, after the wife and I drove down and gave them our "good faith" deposit (we had to transfer money from a couple accounts to pay in full which was going to take 3-5 business days before the funds were actually available), they got a bunch of other offers closer to sticker price. Ha! He said he felt like he sold himself short by selling it to us for the price he gave. He didn't "lose" money by any means. He just didn't make as much as he could have.
