AT Slipping Issues
I'm a new owner of a 2013 Scion FR-S just recently purchased with roughly 24k miles. Recently I've come across a strange issue figured I would share to see if anyone else is experiencing this. (I looked up a couple of threads in the forum and I didn't come across a similar issue.)
Anyways, I'm cruising at 40mph on 6th gear. I downshift to 4th in regular mode and it'll "not catch" as if it’s having slipping issues in 4th gear until I let go of the throttle. Not until I let go of the throttle, it'll shift aggressively into 4th gear. If I don't let go of the throttle long enough it'll just keep revving. Is anyone having the same issue? Quote:

I dont know if it helps, but sometimes i get an issue where ill give it a lot of throttle, the transmission downshifts, the engines revs and then after about 2 seconds it seems to "catch" and accelerate. This is in regular mode (not manual) and scared me a couple of times where traffic was coming up behind me a little fast. Its not exactly the same issue as yours but...

Actually that is exactly whats happening. You just explained it better lol. Do you experience this alot?

Not a lot. It usually only occurs when im about to change lanes to get from behind someone slow and once im in a new lane i have to go almost full throttle to keep from slowing down traffic behind me. I don't do this often, but when i do, it doesn't occur all the time (Maybe 3 times ever, 5000mi total on the odometer). Maybe because it happens in some gears and not in others. I really don't know if its a a mechanical issue or the transmission ECU programming issue but it sometimes scares me when i need it to accelerate and it doesnt. Sorry i cant be of any help.
Come to think of it. My 2010 tacoma (auto) would do something similar i guess. When i slowed down to take a left across traffic, i would give it a lot of throttle and sometimes it would rev the engine and not accelerate for about 1-2 seconds before it finally downshifted and "catched". Turns out, it was a common issue that they had an TSB for. I took it in, they reflashed the trans. ECU and it completely went away. |
Easy fix, downshift with the paddles then nail the throttle......yes it has happened to me and that's my fix
