Are these HU's interchangeable?
Hi all,
I have a 2013 FR-S with the base Pioneer (non-touchscreen) HU. What I want to know is, are both the PT546-18130 (the 2013 touch screen HU) and the PT546-00140 (the 2014/15 touch screen HU) interchangeable? In other words, if I pick up the 2014/2015 version, will it fit and work in my 2013? Thanks! |
steering wheel controls included?
they should swap over.. |

Should swap without issue, but in my limited understanding of things, mostly from other members posts, the OEM HU the 13 base had was actually one of the better ones without audio issues, and with more functionality, (ie XM ready).

That's good to know, thanks! And it solves the problem of how difficult it is to add Sirius satellite to the OEM HU's...I can use the cheapo plug and play Sirius tuner with this one. Yay! Now, to save the money! |
My 2013 FR-S had the base Pioneer (non-touchscreen) HU. I installed a 2014 PT546-00140 HU. Plug and play install, took about 15 minutes.

Get the new AVH-X5700BHS. It's $30 more and has the 3-way networking mode (all the new AVH models have this) if you want to use it in the future.. I set it up in the BRZ and love it the way it is. Replaced the door speakers with good mids, the dash speakers with good highs and put a sub in the trunk. Sounds great! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9SIA2CP26H5664

I've had all 3 headunits in my 2013.... 100% plug and play

Same here, although it took me about 20 minutes because I added the NAV module to it which requires a few extra screws and head-scratching... |
After much debating, I think I'm going to stay OEM and pick up a PT546-00140. That way I can retain the functionality of the stock bluetooth mic and not have to mess with jumping the USB connection...plus, I like the look of the unit.
Seems easy enough to pop the trim plate off, unbolt and unplug the existing HU, then replug and re-bolt the new one in....right? I've never done any sort of installs like this before, but I hate to pay someone to install something I can easily do myself. Tell me I can do it! RAWR! |

that's pretty much it. You may have to transfer the brackets, I don't recall. I did because I added the GPS unit. |

Got my PT546-00140 today....gonna switch it out tonight! Anything I need to know before I start? I think I'm most nervous about popping the damn trim plate off without breaking it....

I'm pretty proud of myself!! I swapped them out tonight, with some help from my awesome son. So glad I didn't have to pay someone to get this done. :)
