Are these HU's interchangeable?

Hi all,

I have a 2013 FR-S with the base Pioneer (non-touchscreen) HU. What I want to know is, are both the PT546-18130 (the 2013 touch screen HU) and the PT546-00140 (the 2014/15 touch screen HU) interchangeable? In other words, if I pick up the 2014/2015 version, will it fit and work in my 2013?

Thanks!

I don't have steering wheel controls (although I wish I did!).

Should swap without issue, but in my limited understanding of things, mostly from other members posts, the OEM HU the 13 base had was actually one of the better ones without audio issues, and with more functionality, (ie XM ready).

Yeah, I've heard the same, but I hate the display. I'd really like a large color touchscreen display. I'm open to aftermarket options as well...this seems to be a reasonable option. Any other recommendations?

I have the 5600BHS, it's a solid choice

That's good to know, thanks! And it solves the problem of how difficult it is to add Sirius satellite to the OEM HU's...I can use the cheapo plug and play Sirius tuner with this one. Yay! Now, to save the money!

My 2013 FR-S had the base Pioneer (non-touchscreen) HU. I installed a 2014 PT546-00140 HU. Plug and play install, took about 15 minutes.

That's exactly what I initially wanted to know...thank you!

Get the new AVH-X5700BHS. It's $30 more and has the 3-way networking mode (all the new AVH models have this) if you want to use it in the future.. I set it up in the BRZ and love it the way it is. Replaced the door speakers with good mids, the dash speakers with good highs and put a sub in the trunk. Sounds great! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9SIA2CP26H5664

Same here, although it took me about 20 minutes because I added the NAV module to it which requires a few extra screws and head-scratching...
